by Muzaffer Uysal, M. Joseph Sirgy, Stefan Kruger

Quality-of-life research in tourism and hospitality has gained much momentum in the past two decades. This line of research covers three main areas of focus: (i) the impacts of specific tourism and hospitality programmes on the overall quality of life of tourists/guests; (ii) the providers of goods and services; (iii) tourist communities, including the impact of different programmes and events on the quality of life of residents in these communities. Focusing on these key subjects, Managing Quality of Life in Tourism and Hospitality provides a portfolio of selected cases showing best practice and delivering them to the forefront of knowledge application, with examples in tourism and hospitality settings. The book offers an exciting and refreshing approach to quality-of-life research in tourism and hospitality. Key features include: - Best practice and evidence-based case studies. - Broad coverage that includes tourists, industry and local communities. - International application, with material from various countries across the world.

        The Clock Can Go

The end of the culture of obedience

        by Karlheinz A. Geißler

For more than 500 years, the clock has dictated the rhythm of life in the Western World. Clocks were impossible to miss: they were on church towers, at railway stations and factories, they struck the hours and urged people to hurry. But these days, clocks and the punctuality they insisted upon are on the retreat. Nowadays, we are rarely asked “What is the time?” and it is no longer customary to present golden watches or clocks to commemorate important life events. Now we rely on mobile devices and displays to tell us the time, the steady stroke of the rigid clock has been replaced by a more flexible network: we stream TV programmes when we feel like it, we listen to podcasts at any time; chatting, flirting and dating no longer requires prior agreement on time and place. However, what will follow after we have freed ourselves from the chains of the clock god? Emeritus Professor of Economics and time expert Karlheinz A. Geißler shows us that when the influence of the clock disappears, liberating perspectives emerge for experiencing time in social relationships – beyond time pressure and dictates of punctuality.

        Tukoni, the Forest Friends

        by Oksana Bula

All night a thunderstorm raged in the woods. The tukoni named Wanderer was sleeping and didn’t notice anything, but was awoken by the alarm signal that came from his best friend, the tree. Tukoni the Wanderer convenes the other tukoni, including Moth, who is making a magical comforter. The tukoni gather together and save Wanderer’s best friend, the tree that was struck by lightning during the night. The book has the title that it does because it’s about friendship with the place where you live. People live on the planet Earth. Tukoni live in the forest. For the tukoni, the forest isn’t a fortress, a place of work, or their property. The tukoni are friends with each other, but each and every of them is also a friend of the forest, the place where they live. It’s important to treat the place where you live as a friend.

        The business of time

A global history of the watch industry

        by Pierre-Yves Donzé

The business of time presents a comprehensive history of the global watch industry from the mid-nineteenth century to the present. Watch production in the twenty-first century is concentrated in three countries: Switzerland, Japan and China. The industry is dominated by a dozen or so large companies, including the Swatch Group, Richemont, LVMH, Seiko and Fossil. But a hundred years ago the picture was dramatically different. Over the course of a century, Great Britain, France, the United States and Russia saw the manufacture of watches disappear from their territory. At the same time, Hong Kong went from being a subcontractor of watch components to an intermediary between Chinese factories and the world market. Revealing the conditions that drove the spread of watch production around the globe, The business of time explains how multinationals emerged to dominate the industry and highlights how Swiss companies were able to establish themselves as the undisputed leader in luxury watches.

        The Life

        by Oleg Sentsov

The Life is a collection of autobiographical stories. This is a book for everyone who has not yet found answers as to why Oleg was assisting Ukrainian soldiers in Crimea, why he spoke openly about the war in Ukraine initiated by Russia, and why he went on a hunger strike and didn’t request clemency. These stories acquaint us with the author during a period of internal searching and transformation that was important to him, when he was trying to understand who he was and which path he will take further and never give it in. The collection is the first publication of Oleg Sentsov’s writings in Ukrainian, with the translation presented side by side with the original Russian texts. Life is an extremely important book for Oleg, and even while imprisoned, he took an active part in its publication.

        I See That

        by Art studio Agrafka

This is an educational picture book about sight from the creative studio Agrafka. It is about both things we can see with our own eyes and the mysterious, invisible to the human eye. This book is also about microscopes and telescopes that help us see incredibly small or extremely distant things. It explains that for better eyesight some people need glasses, while those who can’t see at all need a special system and symbols. By reading this book, you will learn how birds and animals see the world, how artists create optical illusions, and about the many millions of hues the human eye can perceive. I See That won the 2018 Bologna Ragazzi Award, the most prestigious award in children’s literature, in the award’s non-fiction category. I See That has been awarded with a Bronze Medal Stiftung Buchkunst in 2019.

Livestock, Ethics and Quality of Life

by Edited by John Hodges, In K Han

The science of animal production has recently become headline news. The cloning of sheep, the use of pig xenotransplants and bovine somatotrophin, as well as mad-cow disease, are all examples of how livestock production is related to food safety, human health, ethics and quality of life. The relationship between intensive developed-world animal production and third world development also raises ethical issues. These are just some of the topics addressed in this book, which has its origin in a special symposium held at the VIII World Congress on Animal Production held in June 1998 in Korea. Additional chapters have been specially commissioned for inclusion in the book.

        Bison Looks for a Nest

by Oksana Bula (Author), Oksana Bula (Illustrator)

Once upon a time a bison met a bear. Winter was coming and he asked the bear where he could get food since everything was covered with snow. The bear answered that he didn’t eat in the winter. Instead he usually went into a deep sleep. Every year at the same time the Tukonis, the magical forest inhabitants, would put him to sleep in a den and wake him up at springtime. The bison was amazed. He had never slept all though the winter and couldn’t even imagine that other animals did. How wonderful it would be to sleep in a cozy nest rather than roam around in the snow searching for food! The bison decided that the Tukonis should put him to bed as well.   From 3 to 6 years, 407 words Rightsholders: ivan.fedechko@starlev.com.ua
