Description

The old Lion, tired of ruling, settles in glorious Lviv in a beautiful attic with windows overlooking Rynok Square. One day, during the rain, the ceiling of his apartment begins to leak. Someone has to repair it, and the old Lion asks his closest friends, Crocodile, Elephant, and Giraffe, for help. When they arrive in Lviv, amazing things start happening to them. This poetic tale is a true love letter to Lviv, where miracles happen almost every day.

Author Biography

Mariana Savka was born in 1973 in the town of Kopychyntsi, Ternopil region. She is a public figure, poet, translator, children's author, literary scholar, publicist, and editor-in-chief and co-founder of Vydavnytstvo Staroho Leva (Old Lion’s Publishing House) with her then husband Yuri Chopyk. She graduated from the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv and practiced singing and acting in her youth (she graduated from the drama studio at the Les Kurbas Lviv Theatre). She authored several children's books and her poems were published in literary magazines and miscellanies. Her work has also been included in several poetry anthologies. During her university years, was a member of a literary group MMYNNA TUGA (ММЮННА ТУГА. Mariana worked as a junior researcher and as a literary editor and cultural observer at the daily newspaper Postup.


Volodymyr Shtanko is a Ukrainian illustrator. The son of Oleksiy and Kateryna Shtanko, well-known graphic artists in Ukraine and abroad.
Currently, he is dedicating himself to book illustration and cooperates with publishing houses. He often uses watercolor techniques, ecoline, pencil, gouache, and acrylic paints.
