And how can we even begin to understand a phenomenon that can be transformative for those who experience it and yet so hard to put into words? The answers to these questions lie in this fascinating exploration through cutting-edge research in contemporary psychology, psychiatry, neuroscience and philosophy. Taking the reader on a riveting and emotional journey, Presence offers remarkable insights into the experience of felt presence and how it relates to a range of medical conditions, including sleep paralysis, dementia and Parkinson's. This compelling story will stoke the fascination of sceptics and ardent believers alike who are drawn to the mystery of the unseen.
The üPopulation lost its human form a long time ago. In the world of people, heart palpitations are a crime, a terrible disease. An ideal society is governed by the neÜsrooms. The only thing standing in the way of perfect order is Herz-terrorism, which arose as a result of a global cardiac pandemic. A law-abiding persön David works conscientiously for the benefit of the Ümpire at the TV center, helping to create a news product that should be regularly consumed by all representatives of the üPopulation. "Happy Naked People" is a thematically united cycle of stories about happiness or rather about what precedes happiness. These are stories about the generation of Ukrainians who had a chance to see the last days of the Soviet Union and the recession that followed it, about those who grew up and became the strogest versions of themselves, in spite of everything that happened to them. It is about how these people live now and interact with the world, in which there is war, and love, and emigration, and Hanoi, and New York, and the dead, and the living, and the blind, and the unwise; and, most importantly, how to be happy with this all.

— Water as a reason for war and a political instrument of power — Unique overview of global water conflicts — Foreword by Wolfgang Ischinger Every year, droughts in African countries cause hundreds of thousands of deaths and much suffering. Europe also experienced drought in 2022's summer of record temperatures. Without water, there can be no life. More and more people are suffering from water shortages. Climate change is fuelling the distribution battles for water; violent conflicts over this precious resource are the order of the day. Whether the protests in Iraq, the war in Syria, in the Himalayas, the Nile conflict and in many other places, water is already a reason for war and is being misused as a political instrument of power. The construction of huge dams, the targeted closure of locks, river diversions, water and land grabbing bring wars over the "blue gold" with them. In a unique overview, journalist Jürgen Rahmig describes the struggle for water in the 21st century. Where do dangers lurk today; where will they be tomorrow, and how can we prevent wars over precious water?

This full scale study discusses Angela Carter's fiction in chronological order, and notes that although her themes are fairly consistent throughout her work, consistency of theme is not the same as repetition. The new angles and emphases that develop are partly from Carter's immersion in the changing intellectual debates of the times and, concurrently, arise from the reading she was doing at the different stages of her life, which stretched from the medieval through de Sade to Foucault. ;
After a young couple returns from their vacation to the Carpathian Mountains in Ukraine, they discover that the world as they once knew it no longer exists. Tragedy happened and survivors are forced to adapt to the harsh conditions of their new reality: overcoming deeply-rooted fears, they try to forge another world where they can unite with those who still retained their humanity. Will the couple be able to survive, make alliances with others, and give birth to a new generation? Will the insidiousness of human nature manifest itself in this new world? Chapeye's post-apocalyptic novel, diluted with beautifully melancholic and black humor, is a kind of artistic study of people's behavior in critical situations when everything that once seemed stable falls apart.
"24.02" is a war diary. The book tells a real story about a company of young people who found themselves against their will in the middle of the war. It is about how each of them froze either from fear or from cold when a rocket hit somewhere nearby and a powerful explosion broke some windows and activated alarms. It is about how each of them tried to be useful to the country, about the evolution of their fears and doubts. It is about what they discussed, what they thought about and what they believed in. This book is about ordinary people, ordinary Ukrainians.

Black Bartholomew's Day explores the religious, political and cultural implications of a collision of highly-charged polemic prompted by the mass ejection of Puritan ministers from the Church of England in 1662. It is the first in-depth study of this heated exchange, centres centring on the departing ministers' farewell sermons. Many of these valedictions, delivered by hundreds of dissenting preachers in the weeks before Bartholomew's Day, would be illegally printed and widely distributed, provoking a furious response from government officials, magistrates and bishops. Black Bartholomew's Day re-interprets the political significance of ostensibly moderate Puritan clergy, arguing that their preaching posed a credible threat to the restored political order This book is aimed at readers interested in historicism, religion, nonconformity, print culture and the political potential of preaching in Restoration England.
