WHY THE FRENCH ARE NOT GETTING FAT

        by Andrii Aliokhin

Hello, I am Andrii Aliokhin. I have been an actor and a writer for many years living in two capitals: Kyiv and Paris. I was neither a tourist nor an immigrant. This allowed me to see our life and French life from a unique point of view. This book tells a story about what I had learned in France. Not from professional chefs or subtle connoisseurs of culinary delights, but from ordinary French men and women, who cook and eat in France. Real people who love, work, grieve, celebrate, raise children, walk dogs, and go to market in the course of their daily lives. So, you will find here my little stories about the French – memoirs and other nonsense, that actually is called life. In some way it is also a cookbook. Everything collected here are ordinary, simple, French recipes. All ingredients can be easily found on the shelvesof our stores. But this is not just a book about the kitchen. It’s about what I finally realized. I realized why the French are not getting fat. The book by Andre Aliokhin – the most famous and popular Ukrainian blogger. It’s bestseller in Ukraine. The German translation will be published soon.

        Small Animal Veterinary Psychiatry

        by Sagi Denenberg, Ali Thompson

Problem behaviours are often the result of how an animal thinks and feels, genetics, and environmental influences. Steering away from just description diagnoses and focusing instead on emotional and cognitive causes, this book provides a practical approach to diagnosing, treating, and managing behaviour pathologies in dogs and cats. Beginning by addressing cases in the first opinion practice, this book then considers physical disorders that may lead to or exacerbate abnormal behavior. From there, the focus shifts to mental and emotional health, from an assessment of normal behavior and giving juveniles an optimal start in life, to diagnosing mental and emotional disorders, addressing emotions such as anxiety and frustration, and how to manage these issues - by modifying behavior, managing the animal's environment, training, and, when necessary, the use of medications. The second half of the book then addresses owner concerns, including management problems, aggression, affective disorder, elimination disorder, abnormal and repetitive behaviours and ageing-related problems. With an emphasis on helping first line veterinarians identify common presentations and offer help to owners, this book: - Addresses both normal and abnormal behaviour in cats and dogs from an emotion and cognition perspective; - Provides behaviour modification protocols, and drug doses and indications; - Includes handouts to be used both within the practice and with clients to help the veterinary surgeon manage the case. Written by international experts, the book translates their insights and experience into approaches taken in behavioural medicine. Also including the most up-to-date drugs, it is an important resource for both small animal veterinarians and students of veterinary medicine or animal behaviour.

      • Asian Vegetables

by Caroline Ho-Yi Wang, Patricia Ho-Yi Wang, Stéphanie Ho-Yi Wang, photos by Virginie Gosselin

If bok choy has been able to acquire a prominent place on Western shelves, many other Asian vegetables still remain unknown. But these tasty, nutritious vegetables can be easily grown in temperate, and even northern, climates! Caroline, Stephanie andPatricia Ho-Yi Wang, three sisters of Cantonese origin, have made it their mission to introduce these vegetables, which everyone will love, in a unique book that is both a guide to gardening and a cookbook, as well as the story of a family. Presenting 15 Asian vegetables according to each season, the book offers advice to Sunday gardeners as well as future market gardeners on how to organically grow and harvest these vegetables, as well as provides preservation techniques, nutritional information and cookingmethods. Around forty recipes, some of which were created by famous chefs, are presented as well. The Wang sisters also explore the world of Asian vegetables from a cultural point of view, tracing the place that these hold in their own lives and in those of their family members, many of whom left China to emigrate to Madagascar before finally settling in Quebec. A true homage to the earth, good food and one’s roots!

        Grand traité du café

        by Mireille Gayet

Great Treatise on Coffee The history of coffee is not simply the story of the small grain that originated in the Middle East and was used in cooking, like a spice.  As a drink, coffee offers infinite combinations depending on the rites and customs of social, medical, cultural, economic and political trends. This book offers the reader a wonderful journey through time and space between Ethiopia and America, Europe and Asia, of initiation to various forms of coffee-drinking that differ from country to country and era.  The book is a rich discovery of the numerous botanic varieties, diverse methods of preparation, and also evokes famous writers and artists in coffee shops and the influence and importance these had for them. In reality, an entire world hides behind coffee.  And that is what this treatise sets out to do: Reveal the countless facets and varied ways of savoring its magic. This book can be placed almost anywhere in the house: In the kitchen, along with cookbooks; in the library, next to dictionaries; next to the coffee machine; and especially on the bedside table of coffee-lovers, whether occasional or unconditional, aroma experts, or converted coffee-lovers... or in the process of becoming!

        The Scottish Farmers' Market Cookbook

        by Nick. Paul

Scotland has an enviable reputation for producing some of the finest food in the world. Langoustines from the West Coast of Scotland are eaten at tables all over Europe; the Scottish Aberdeen Angus has long been the byword for quality meat; Scottish soft raspberries and tayberries are considered the finest available, and so the list goes on! Scottish kitchens are moving away from the global produce offered by supermarkets and are returning to locally-produced, seasonal food. Local growers and producers are supplying markets from the Borders up to Orkney and they are becoming increasingly popular. Farmers' markets in Scotland are a mix of greengrocer, butcher, garden-centre, off-licence, game dealer, delicatessan and more. The buyer has the opportunity to meet and speak to each farmer about the produce, making the shopping experience enjoyable and personal. The Scottish Farners' Market Cookbook is a collection of recipes from producers and stallholders and reflects the produce that can be found at these Markets.;The recipes are simple and delicious and range from Beef sausages with Wild Mushrooms poached in Red Wine, to Pork and Apple with Ginger Jam; from Beetroot and Goats Cheese Starter to Apple Water Ice. As well as delicious, easy-to-use recipes, the Scottish Farmers' Market Cookbook includes sections on seasonal growth, an availability guide, a producers list, farmers' market venues, and conversion chart for weights and measures. This cookbook demonstrates that fine cooking need not be difficult and shopping at the Farmers' Market for all your ingredients will produce the best in taste and guarantee a fresh, quality meal.

Essay on Philippine Food and Culture

        by Doreen G. Fernandez

Doreen Gamboa Fernandez represents “the compleat writer” – her incisive yet soulful writing, coupled with her keen understanding of the Filipino’s culture and psyche, has brought her (and us fortunate readers) into the very essence of Filipino cooking. According to her, “Writing about food should not be left to newspaper food columnists, or to restaurant reporters. It should be taken from us by historians of the culture, by dramatists and essayists, by novelists, and especially by poets. For it is an act of understanding, an extension of experience. If one can savor the word, then one can swallow the world.”
