A Practical Foundation for Early Language Development

by Alice Kassotaki - Speech Language Pathologist MSc, BSc

Help young children build their first 100 words through structured, playful, and sound-based learning. First 100 Words | A Guide to Developing Speech and Language by Alice Kassotaki, MSc, BSc, is an expertly designed resource that supports the earliest stages of speech and language acquisition. Featuring a core vocabulary of 100 essential words grouped into 14 meaningful categories, this book provides a structured framework for helping children recognize, store, and reproduce speech sounds while gradually moving toward expressive language use. The first part of the book emphasizes sound awareness—guiding children to become familiar with phonetic elements, store them in memory, distinguish between them, and begin producing them. The second part moves into phrase-level language activities, encouraging progression through listening, imitation, supported production, and finally, spontaneous speech. At this developmental stage, the goal is not articulation perfection, but consistent use and understanding of words within context. Designed for early interventionists, speech-language therapists, and educators, this guide is a powerful tool for building a strong linguistic foundation in toddlers and preschoolers. Its clear structure and engaging approach make it an excellent candidate for international publishers seeking evidence-based, practical resources for early childhood language development. A Step-by-Step Guide to Developing Sentence Writing Skills

by Alice Kassotaki - Speech Language Pathologist MSc, BSc

Support written language production through structured, leveled practice and visual scaffolding. Written Language Production – Sentence Structure by Alice Kassotaki, MSc, BSc, is the first book in the comprehensive Written Language Production series, designed to strengthen the foundation of written expression in children aged 7 and up. Ideal for educators, speech-language pathologists, and special education professionals, this resource offers a practical, evidence-based pathway to improving written language skills. With its clear progression and user-friendly format, Written Language Production – Sentence Structure is a valuable tool for international publishers looking to expand their portfolio of structured writing interventions.

        Semantic correlations

Build Stronger Semantic and Vocabulary Skills Through Meaningful Word Relationships

by Alice Kassotaki - Speech Language Pathologist MSc, BSc

A visual and structured approach to concept categorization and word recall. Semantic Correlations, authored by speech-language pathologist Alice Kassotaki, MSc, BSc, is a carefully designed tool that helps children enhance their lexical and semantic processing abilities. Centered on the principle that new concepts are more easily acquired when linked to existing knowledge, this book guides learners through tasks that reinforce the understanding of semantic relationships and support immediate information recall. The activities unfold over two levels of difficulty. In the first, children are presented with three words, one of which does not belong to the studied category, allowing them to explore differences and establish common semantic properties. In the second, more advanced level, all three words fall within the same category, challenging learners to identify deeper similarities before classifying them. This progression fosters cognitive flexibility and semantic accuracy. Children work on skills such as vocabulary enrichment, receptive and expressive language, categorization, and semantic reasoning. By using hierarchical structures that show the transition from general to specific concepts, the book creates an intuitive visual guide that deepens comprehension. With translation rights available, Semantic Correlations is an ideal addition to any publisher’s special education or speech therapy collection.

        History of the German Language

A textbook for German studies; Part 1: Introduction, prehistory and history; Part 2: Old High German, Middle High German and Early New High German

by Wilhelm Schmidt, Edited by Dr. Elisabeth Berner and Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Dr. h.c. Norbert Richard Wolf

The 12th revised and updated version of the History of the German language – long regarded as an indispensable standard work for German Studies, has just been published. From now on, this comprehensive textbook on the history of the language is divided into two volumes. In addition to introducing questions about historical linguistics, the first volume provides a detailed account of the prehistory and history of German right up to the present day. Based on extensive source analyses, the focus is on aspects of culture and social history; only the chapters on the Indo-Germanic and Germanic language include key information about structural history. The second part contains concise, but readily understandable accounts of Old, Middle and Early New High German in terms of phonology, graphemics, morphology and syntax. Not only are synchronous descriptions given of the particular language period, but also the development of German language construction at all structural levels is explained. The association of grammatical synchrony and structural diachrony is a particular characteristic of this second part of Schmidt’s work on the history of language.

The Boy Who Saw the Color of Air

        by Abdo Wazen

In his first YA novel, cultural journalist and author Abdo Wazen writes about a blind teenager in Lebanon who finds strength and friendship among an unlikely group.   Growing up in a small Lebanese village, Bassim’s blindness limits his engagement with the materials taught in his schools. Despite his family’s love and support, his opportunities seem limited.   So at thirteen years old, Bassim leaves his village to join the Institute for the Blind in a Beirut suburb. There, he comes alive. He learns Braille and discovers talents he didn’t know he had. Bassim is empowered by his newfound abilities to read and write.   Thanks to his newly developed self-confidence, Bassim decides to take a risk and submit a short story to a competition sponsored by the Ministry of Education. After winning the competition, he is hired to work at the Institute for the Blind.   At the Institute, Bassim, a Sunni Muslim, forms a strong friendship with George, a Christian. Cooperation and collective support are central to the success of each student at the Institute, a principle that overcomes religious differences. In the book, the Institute comes to symbolize the positive changes that tolerance can bring to the country and society at large.   The Boy Who Saw the Color of Air is also a book about Lebanon and its treatment of people with disabilities. It offers insight into the vital role of strong family support in individual success, the internal functioning of institutions like the Institute, as well as the unique religious and cultural environment of Beirut.   Wazen’s lucid language and the linear structure he employs result in a coherent and easy-to-read narrative. The Boy Who Saw the Color of Air is an important contribution to a literature in which people with disabilities are underrepresented. In addition to offering a story of empowerment and friendship, this book also aims to educate readers about people with disabilities and shed light on the indispensable roles played by institutions like the Institute.

        Communicate, research, present

by Nadine Yvonne Sprecher, Annette Thomas, Annegret Lehmann and Anke Schichte. In collaboration with Christiane Schneider

In the pharmacy, the staff communicate with customers, colleagues, the medical profession, sales representatives and nursing home staff. Pharmacy employees produce written information based on well-chosen sources and represent the pharmacy to the outside world through presentations, on social media, or with the help of flyers, posters and other promotional materials. All this presupposes the confident use of language, and is best trained in advance. Part A of this work provides assistance for the most diverse communicative requirements in the pharmacy. A short theoretical explanation is always followed by several tasks so that you can immediately put what you have learned into practice and try it out. The „Brief overview of grammar and language knowledge“ boxes point out linguistic stumbling blocks. Those who are not yet sure of the technical terms can make themselves fit in Part B. Here one learns how to conduct a good counselling interview according to the BAC guideline. Extensive lists of technical terms and their explanations suitable for everyday use – all arranged according to organ systems – contain the most important vocabulary for everyday pharmacy work. A totally practical German lesson!
