Present-day citizens are no longer the passive clients of the bureaucracy and welfare workers are no longer automatically the powerful party of the encounter. Instead, citizens are expected to engage in active, responsible and coproducing relationships with welfare workers. However, other factors impact these interactions; factors which often pull in different directions. Welfare encounters are thus influenced by bureaucratic principles and market values as well. Consequently, this book engages with both Weberian (bureaucracy) and Foucauldian (market values/NPM) studies when investigating the powerful welfare encounter. However, instead of bringing about peace and justice, transitional justice soon became an arena of contention. Through a process lens, the book explores why and how the process evolved, and explains how it relates to the country's political transition. Based on extensive field research in Tunisia and the US, and interviews with a broad range of international stakeholders and decision-makers, this is the first book to comprehensively study the Tunisian transitional justice process. It provides an in-depth analysis of a crucial period, examining the role of justice professionals in different stages, as well as the alliances and frictions between different actor groups that cut across the often-assumed local-international divide.

Latin America is a complex mosaic of nations, people and landscapes, with unique cultural, scenic and economic resources but with no more than 6% of global international tourist arrivals (World Bank, 2019). The region hosts several top international destinations - such as the Caribbean islands and the sacred city of the Incas, Machu Picchu (Peru). Cities like São Paulo and Mexico City are internationally known for their Meetings Incentives Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) sector. Galapagos (Ecuador) and Fernando de Noronha (Brazil) are areas of significant ecological importance. However, even if some of the destinations are well known internationally, the region is still seen as an untouched source for tourism at global and regional scales. Moreover, the region is still underrepresented in international tourism literature and content for pedagogical and educational purposes still limited. This gap needs to be filled, to help inform tourism developments and to better educate the next generation. This can help shift students and practitioners away from an over-dependence on models and ideas developed and tested in different social and cultural settings that may not be appropriate for a Latin American context. Therefore, this book aims to bring together researchers, students, practitioners and other agents involved with research, teaching and the operation of tourism to share their research and work experiences in Latin America, in the form of case studies focusing on real-world examples.

US diplomacy and the Good Friday Agreement in post-conflict Northern Ireland

Richard Haass and Mitchell Reiss, as autonomous diplomats in the George W. Bush State Department, were able to alter US intervention in Northern Ireland and play critical roles in the post-1998 peace process. Their contributions have not been fully appreciated or understood. The restoration of Northern Ireland's power-sharing government in 2007 was made possible by State Department-led intervention in the peace process. There are few references to Northern Ireland in work examining the foreign policy legacy of the George W. Bush presidency. Moreover, the ability to control US foreign policy towards the region brought one of George W. Bush's Northern Ireland special envoys into direct diplomatic conflict with the most senior actors inside the British government. This book will uncover the extent of this fall-out and provide original accounts on how diplomatic relations between these old allies became so fraught.
