Re-examines the controversial policy of appeasement. The text suggests that the mood of the age in British society served to support appeasement, by analyzing the cluster of military, strategic, imperial and economic forces which served to justify it. The book argues that, when Neville Chamberlain came to power, appeasement was part of a broad consensus in British society to avoid a second world war. It provides an interpretation of Chamberlain's conduct by showing how he used and abused the mood of the age to justify a selfish and ambitious policy which was idealogically prejudiced. Yet, when Hitler entered Prague in March 1939, the public mood changed, and Chamberlain found himself a prisoner of a new mood which forced him to make a tactical and half-hearted attempt to stand up to Hitler for which he had no enthusiasm. ;

Are you tired of asking your partner and explaining what you need, and receive noresponse? Are you frustrated by feeling that your needs are not considered? Do you fearthat your relationship will limit your personal growth? Do you feel that there is love, butalso that his love catches you and wears you down? Many people, particularly women, seek therapy for symptoms like depression and anxiety, but without clear awareness of what causes them. Many blame themselves for not being “good enough, ” and not understanding to their partners.The common denominator of their mental health challenge is the minimization and invisibility caused by the oppression in in their exchanges with their partner, as opposed to receiving encouragement and support for their personal and professional development. This oppression will lead to diminishment and limiting their decisions through silences,gestures, humiliations or even physical violence, while they protect themselves byassuming a role that is lower than that of his/her partner. Jerks are not always easy to identify; they tend to confuse their partners with effusivedisplays of love that cover up their high doses of control and abuse. We talk about thejerks, those men who make people fall in love with sweet words, flowers and attention and who, little by little, display their crude, aggressive and even dangerous ways of “loving”. They destroy self-esteem and make their prey feel guilty for their behaviors. This book is a guide that speaks to the person trapped in a pitiful relationship. In these times of change and transformation, we have faced, individually and collectively, our deepest fears, discovering how vulnerable and fragile we are. The technological revolution that has drastically altered our way of communicating, the risks of climate change, the ongoing pandemic, and the resurgence of fear from a continental-scale war remind us of the illusory nature of control and the fragility of our sense of security. "Encuentro" is a response to our new vulnerability: a voice that speaks, shouts, or whispers what the ancient memory of peoples has passed down to us. Through shamanic practices applicable to daily life and a simple yet profound presentation of the basic principles of this ancestral wisdom, Fer Broca teaches us how to merge our personal experiences and face our fears with the help of a living tradition that is constantly evolving. This book is both personal and social, informative and inspiring, practical and introspective, designed to help us find meaning in times of crisis.

"Eye-catching": Top 10 Anticipated Art Books Publishers Weekly Garnering critical success over the past four years, Viennese artist Deborah Sengl has exhibited taxidermied rats, drawings and paintings to restage Karl Kraus’ infamous, nearly-unperformable play The Last Days of Mankind (Die Letzten Tage der Menschheit, 1915–22). Featuring Sengl’s entire installation, this edition includes essays that examine her ambitious dramaturgy, which condenses the 10-15 hour drama into an abridged reading of its themes: human barbarism, the role of journalism in war, the sway of popular opinion and the absurdities of nationalism. The Last Days of Mankind offers an agit-prop protest envisioning human folly through animal actors, who become more than human, while confronting a violence particular to humankind, laced with selfishness and greed. The work is a hundred years old, but for me it is still current. We may not have war in the immediate vicinity, but the war within us is as strong, if not stronger, as it was then.– Deborah Sengl
Solidarity, not selfishness Urban, cosmopolitan, individualistic—for many people today, to be on the left has become a question of lifestyle. What is missing are political concepts for social solidarity that benefit low-earning women, poor migrant children, exploited temporary workers, and large sections of the middle class. In both Europe and the United States, an obsession with pronouns rather than equal opportunities and a dismissive attitude to culture and a sense of community risks alienating the left from large sections of the population while playing into the hands of the far right. In her new book, Sahra Wagenknecht outlines an alternative to a kind of left-liberalism that considers itself progressive, but in reality only deepens social divisions by being interested only in elite concerns and not taking social background seriously as a source of inequality. Here is a program to build a majority on the political left—for solidarity, not selfishness. • A new book by the bestselling author • Develops Sahra Wagenknecht’s idea of a “left conservatism”
