FILI, founded in 1977, is a centre for the export of literature. FILI promotes the export of literature from Finland by facilitating professional contacts and serving as a “home base” for translators of Finnish literature. We deal with fiction, children’s and young adult books, non-fiction, poetry, comics and graphic novels written in Finnish, Finland-Swedish and Sámi. FILI serves as a support organisation for the export of literature, while publishers and literary agencies handle the sale of translation rights. FILI is a department of the Finnish Literature Society, and around 80% of our funding comes from public sources.   FILI distributes approx. €700,000 in translation grants, travel grants and promotional grants for over 400 different projects annually organises Editors’ Week events for publishers to visit Finland from abroad participates in publishing trade fairs abroad acts as a focal point for translators of Finnish literature maintains a database of translations of Finnish literature published in other languages and collects data on translation rights sold abroad. You are welcome to contact us: if you want more information about our grants programmes (Grants Wizard) to let us know about a publisher abroad that’s interested in Finnish literature if you are a translator from Finnish/Finland-Swedish/Sámi and you’re not in our records yet to tell us about a new translation of a Finnish book that’s not in our database if you have questions about literary exports.   Networks FILI constitutes part of the NordLit network, along with similar organisations from the other Nordic countries. We hold regular meetings together where we plan our future operations and joint projects. We have a shared Nordic presence at some publishing trade events, such as the London Book Fair. In 2015 NordLit had a joint Nordic stand at the Beijing International Book Fair and the Shanghai International Children’s Book Fair. In Finland, FILI is a member of the TAIVE network of arts information centres. Unlike Finnish information centres for many other artistic genres, FILI does not have a mandate or specific duties to perform here in Finland; instead, our focus is on activities outside Finland. Thus we refer to ourselves in Finnish as a literary export organisation.

US public diplomacy in socialist Yugoslavia, 1950–70

        Soft culture, cold partners

        by Carla Konta

The first comprehensive account of the public and cultural diplomacy campaigns carried out by the US in Yugoslavia during the height of the Cold War, this book examines the political role of culture in US-Yugoslav bilateral relations and the fluid links between information and propaganda. Tito allowed the US Information Agency and the State Department's cultural programmes to enter Yugoslavia, liberated from Soviet control. The exchange of intellectual and political personnel helped foster the US-Yugoslav relationship, yet it posed severe ideological challenges for both sides. By providing new insights into porous borders between freedom and coercion in Tito's regime, this book shows how public diplomacy acted as an external input for Yugoslav liberalisation and dissident movements. Using extensive archival research and interviews, Konta analyses the links between information and propaganda, and the unintended effects of propaganda beyond the control of producers and receivers.

        Agricultural Innovation for Societal Change

        Towards Sustainability

        by Bo Malte Ingvar Bengtsson

Over the centuries, agriculture has developed through technological steps illustrated by various agricultural revolutions. This book describes and analyses significant agricultural changes since the mid-1960s in the context of development, innovation and adoption by revisiting resource-poor farmers in Ethiopia, Sweden and Trinidad and Tobago, and considering overall development changes up to the early 2020s. It is a platform for discussing current issues for future global food security in the context of globalization and free global trade which have influenced economic growth in many countries but also created environmental concerns and a rapid increase in the number of transnational corporations (TNCs). Sustainable food production is now a global priority and therefore ecological footprints must be reduced - this book provides examples of possible technical changes required to achieve this. Reducing greenhouse gas emissions alone is insufficient: political attention must be paid to declining biodiversity, the increasing global exploration of natural resources, demography, increased consumption, waste mountains, expanding migration and antibiotic resistance. Agribusiness TNCs will challenge national governments and international donors in both research and development, increasing competition for leadership. A gradual societal change, incorporating an understanding of biological fundamentals, is necessary for achieving sustainability and for leading us towards the next agricultural revolution.

Devolution and constitutional change in Northern Ireland

by Edited by Paul Carmichael, Colin Knox and Robert Osborne

This edited book, written by a collection of scholars with an interest in Northern Ireland, tracks its uneasy experience with devolution following the optimistic political period associated with the 1998 Belfast (Good Friday) Agreement. The volume brings together researchers from the Economic and Social Research Council's (ESRC) 'Devolution and Constitutional Change' Programme and other experts to record four key perspectives on Northern Ireland. First, it considers the inextricable link between devolution and constitutional developments. Second, it examines how the main political parties responded to devolution and the major challenges faced by society in moving beyond conflict (such as political symbolism, the role of women, equality and human rights issues). Third, it attempts to assess some of the workings of devolved government in its short-lived form or those seeded in devolution and carried on by direct rule ministers. Finally, Northern Irelands devolved government and associated institutions are located within the wider relationships with Westminster, the Republic of Ireland and Europe. This edited volume will be of interest to students of Irish politics and public policy, but more generally, from a comparative perspective, those with an interest in devolution and constitutional change. It may even assist politicians in Northern Ireland to reflect on the real potential to restore its devolved institutions and draw back from the brink of permanently copper-fastening 'direct rule' from Westminster.

In the modern Chinese painting circle, Chang Yu is a leader, once alternately refreshing the Chinese oil painting auction record. Painter Chang Yu has had ups and downs throughout her life, and insists on going her own way in art. He is recognized in the West as a world-class painter, a Chinese Modigliani, a painter who creates freely for his artistic beliefs and makes remarkable achievements. Chang Yu is an indelible Oriental pearl. Few books of Chang Yu are published in China. We popularize such art and publicize Chang Yu's achievements in the history of Chinese art in the 20th century. The series consists of 3 books. This book is a collection of Chang Yu's figure painting works, which contains more than 60 of his important and iconic figure works. Chang Yu's female body works are different from the expression Angle of nude paintings, and he uses the whole body outline of a naked woman to express the scenery in his mind. There are not many slim naked women in Chang Yu's works, but mostly plump and fat women. Quite the author "do not talk to people, alone in the dark" self-pity mode.

        Complete Works of Yungang Grottoes

        by Zhang Zhuo

The Complete Works of Yungang Grottoes is a collection of photographic materials reflecting different periods, different caves, different artistic styles and artistic characteristics of Yungang Grottoes. It contains 20 volumes, each presenting a single Yungang cave with more than 400 pictures and several professional academic papers on the cultural and artistic characteristics of caves.   As a royal art project symbolizing the imperial power of Tuoba in the Northern Wei Dynasty, the Yungang Grottoes are large in scale, rich in content, exquisite in carving, and vivid in appearance. They absorb and integrate the diverse cultures of ancient nationalities, and represent the highest level of carving in the world in the 5th century. In 2001, the Yungang Grottoes were listed on the World Heritage List.   The Complete Works of Yungang Grottoes displays the treasures of the Yungang Grottoes in an unprecedented scale, high-definition, and panoramic view, which is regarded as a recording and preserving archive of great values. For more than 1500 years, the statues of the Yungang Grottoes have been weathered and ruined by wind and rain. In the past, most of the photography focused on the contemporarily perfect Buddha statues, but the remaining statues, even the best-preserved ones, are disappearing year by year from people's sight. The Complete Works of Yungang Grottoes collects image data of them, makes the documentary files, and has them published to the public, in this way retaining the perfect art in changes.
