In recent years, Lorenzo Montatore has demonstrated an unusual ability to combine a variety of references. In 2017 and 2021 he was nominated for the Cómic Barcelona awards in the best new author and best children’s comic categories. Restless and prolific, in addition to collaborations with major publishers, Montatore has created numerous self-published offerings. Obras Incompletas compiles a major part of the fanzines that he has published over the last five years. It also includes unpublished comics and plenty of additional material: photos, sketches, texts providing background to each piece, a complete interview by Gerardo Vilches and a prologue by Rubén Lardín allowing the reader to enjoy a total immersion in the fascinating imaginary world of an author who manages to blend tradition and modernity to make, in Max’s words, “pure comics”.

Nori e Eu

Nori&Eu; is a project with three voices. Caeto, a Brazilian author of comics and an illustrator, is the editor and brings together two versions of one family’s story: the narrative of Sonia and her son Massanori, or Nori. Sonia tells her story beginning with the birth of Massanori, the difficulties in diagnosing her autistic son, his relationships with the other siblings, family, school and friends. A story of love and dedication, but full of prejudice and difficulties as well. Moving and dramatic. Massanori in turn, a student in Caeto’s drawing course and author of mangas (fanzines), tells his story in a peculiar manner, circumscribed by world events. As explained by his mother: “I perceive my son’s mind as a compendium relating facts and dates, today not only limited to Disney related subjects or super heroes, but historical facts, cultural landmarks and family stories that he finds in books, encyclopedias and by talking with family members… It’s his security blanket.”

Work that represents a visual testimony of the social outbreak that was presented in Chile in October 2019, without censorship or cuts. Illustrations, vignettes and comics that in an intimate and stark way show the various experiences and points of view of young artists. Visions of social criticism, community, hope, joy, effervescence, violence and pain are presented. In this careful and attractive work, the best 86 works obtained through an open call by RRSS are compiled. It is an eminently visual book (with large, full-color illustrations and comics); trilingual (with translations into English and French); and informative (includes notes with reflections from the artists and comments from the editor). The compilation and production of the book was in charge of the publisher María Eliana Aguayo. Regarding the creation of the book, the editor comments: “We are very happy with the success of the call, we received more than 500 works from more than 150 authors from different parts of the country and abroad (…) The hardest work was selecting, ordering and systematize all this, the works, reflections and notes”.
