In recent years, Lorenzo Montatore has demonstrated an unusual ability to combine a variety of references. In his works we can see the influence of literary classics, key figures from graphic humour, comics, music and, of course, 8-bit videogames. This all combines to create a highly original approach to the language of comics, praised by fellow industry professionals and critics alike.
In 2017 and 2021 he was nominated for the Cómic Barcelona awards in the best new author and best children’s comic categories. Restless and prolific, in addition to collaborations with major publishers, Montatore has created numerous self-published offerings. Obras Incompletas compiles a major part of the fanzines that he has published over the last five years. It also includes unpublished comics and plenty of additional material: photos, sketches, texts providing background to each piece, a complete interview by Gerardo Vilches and a prologue by Rubén Lardín allowing the reader to enjoy a total immersion in the fascinating imaginary world of an author who manages to blend tradition and modernity to make, in Max’s words, “pure comics”.

Author Biography
Lorenzo Montatore (Madrid, 1983) broke into the world of comics by writing, drawing and self-publishing a multitude of fanzines in which he depicted a fascinating universe all of his own, collected by ECC in the anthology Montatore: Obras incompletas (Incomplete Works) (2015-2022).
Thanks to his work on La Muerte y Román Tesoro (Death and Román Tesoro) (DeHavilland, 2016), he was nominated for best new author at the Barcelona International Comic Fair. This graphic novel was followed by ¡Cuidado, que te asesinas! (Careful, you’ll get murdered!) (La Cúpula, 2018), California Rocket Fuel (Sugoi Ediciones, 2019 Queridos difuntos), (Dearly departed) (Sapristi, 2020) and La mentira por delante (The lie ahead) (Astiberri, 2021), a peculiar biography of Francisco Umbral included in the 2021 Essentials selection of the Spanish Association of Comic Critics and Distributors (ACDCómic). His bibliography also includes children’s books such as Lola & Blu: La Caja (The Box) (Bang Ediciones, 2020), nominated for the Cómic Barcelona 2021 awards in the best comic for children and young people category, and collaborations as an illustrator in Rockdelux and EL PAÍS Semanal.
Currently, the graphic novel artist is preparing the next story of his own creation, which ECC will launch in 2023.
