        21st century witch

Practical manual for the urban sorceress.

        by Circle of Urban Sorceresses.

Heal the body, Raise energy, Restore spirit and foster love. To begin to understand what a witch or sorceress was and what is, it will be necessary to empty your mind of certain horrible images that, surely, have been engraved on it. Yes: culture in all its forms has been in charge of making us a very bad reputation and a worse aspect. But it is time to change that. It is time to begin to understand what a witch or sorceress really is. She is a woman capable of moving energies for or against something, of mastering the vibrations of the universe to obtain a specific goal. He is a person who can move and interact - and, in fact, he does - comfortably between the terrestrial plane and the celestial kingdom, becoming a kind of "human bridge" between both energetic strata. He is someone who is aware that good and evil are manifestations of the same cosmic energy and has in his hands the power to tip the balance to one side or the other.

        Shadowed by Demons

        by Jim Melvin

“Many things roam the streets in the darkness, and some are not human. Creatures lurk in the crannies and alleyways, pouncing on their victims with murderous intent. It is not unusual to be awoken from sleep by screams, but most of us just check the latches on the shutters and press our pillows against our ears, hoping the horrors of the night don’t find their way into our own bedchambers." Demons roam unchecked as the evil sorcerer, Invictus, tightens his grip on the world . . . Hounded by Invictus' minions, Torg and Laylah escape into the northern wilds of Triken where the wizard, sorceress, and a handful of loyal companions encounter a menagerie of hideous monsters. Even worse, the demon Vedana manipulates their every move from her black realm, wielding her wicked magic like a diabolical chess-master. Against such evil, what hope have they to reach the safety of the White City?

      • The Good Boys

        by Pierre Adrian

Rome, 1975. Three boys from wealthy neighborhoods meet two young girls from the common people. They flirt in cafés and at the wheel of beautiful cars. Until the boys invite the girls to party in a sumptuous villa on Mount Circeo, a small seaside town south of Rome. There, it was said, Ulysses and his companions had landed at the foot of Circeo's palace and the sorceress had bewitched the sailors. The men had turned into pigs. At this beautiful place at the end of summer, under the sun of Circeo, the worst happened. The events remained famous as the "Circeo's massacre". Pierre Adrian explores the complexity of relationships between girls and boys, seduction when it tips over into violence, girls' hopes for social upliftment and boys' class disdain. Finally, as a tragic leitmotiv, he revisits places and myths: how does the spell cast by the magician in The Odyssey on Mount Circeo still resonate in 1975 and today?

        Granny Yaga

        by Vitali Vitaliev

On a drab winter evening, an apparition of a flying old woman is spotted in Bloomsbury, an area of London well-known for its magical, masonic and shamanism associations. This is followed by the arrival of Yadwiga, alias Baba Yaga, one of the most interesting characters of East European folklore – an ambiguous witch, a sorceress and an unlikely super-heroine. She has come to London as part of the struggling Sablins family – recent migrants from a fictitious East European country. It is here that their phantasmagorical adventures really begin.Yadwiga joined the Sablins when life in the forest, where she had been dwelling inside a hut on hen’s legs for over a thousand years, became impossible due to “deforestation” and the invasion of over-curious visitors (Baba Yaga can’t take being asked questions, for each question makes her a bit older – a curse imposed on her by her former partner and now sworn enemy, Koshchei the Deathless, the incarnation of all the world’s evil). Telling the story of her life for the last 600 or so years to her long-lost sister Melissa, Yadwiga has to slow down time in Bloomsbury. The story takes the reader on a fascinating excursion through the history of Slavic and British folklore juxtaposed on the vicissitudes of modern Western life.In the first book of the series, Yadwiga is helping the Sablins to settle down in the UK and to come to grips with their new existence in the West. It will also look back at what had made them take the decision to leave their home country. The plot is riddled with revealing and funny happenings. “Granny Yaga” and her best friend and protégé Danya Sablin, a boy of 11, will have to deal with school bullies and football fans, thieves and oligarchs, politicians and policemen in their attempt to overcome injustice and to create a better world, where miracles and magic are part and parcel of everyday life.Unlike most of Baba Yaga’s folklorist portrayals, Yadwiga in "Granny Yaga" is modern, positive, witty and selfless, with all her character traits based on meticulous research of fables, history, paganism and occultism.Among other characters are Edward Bulwer-Lytton, Carl Yung, students, pickpockets, ticket inspectors, British Museum curators - as well as classical literary characters and personages from East European (Russian, Ukrainian, Polish etc.), and British (Welsh, Scottish, English) folklore tales. The Writer and the book itself are also parts of the story.  The main message of "Granny Yaga" is the importance and the magical power of literature.
