The Good Boys
by Pierre Adrian
Description
Rome, 1975. Three boys from wealthy neighborhoods meet two young girls from the common people. They flirt in cafés and at the wheel of beautiful cars. Until the boys invite the girls to party in a sumptuous villa on Mount Circeo, a small seaside town south of Rome. There, it was said, Ulysses and his companions had landed at the foot of Circeo's palace and the sorceress had bewitched the sailors. The men had turned into pigs. At this beautiful place at the end of summer, under the sun of Circeo, the worst happened. The events remained famous as the "Circeo's massacre".
Pierre Adrian explores the complexity of relationships between girls and boys, seduction when it tips over into violence, girls' hopes for social upliftment and boys' class disdain. Finally, as a tragic leitmotiv, he revisits places and myths: how does the spell cast by the magician in The Odyssey on Mount Circeo still resonate in 1975 and today?
