100 Years of Chinese Art History: 100 Years of Chinese Art History (1900-2000) is a dynastic history of Chinese art in the last 100 years (1900-2000). Through the narration of the development of Chinese art, it explores the deep interaction between the development of art in the last 100 years and the changes of society, economy, ideology and culture. In order to objectively and accurately present the one hundred years of art history, the authors Zou Yuejin and Zou Jianlin interpreted the 20th century Chinese history with the help of the 20th century Chinese art, and used the 20th century Chinese history to explain the characteristics, significance and value of the art in this period, thus forming the basic academic standpoint of "One Hundred Years of Chinese Art History: One Hundred Years of Chinese Art History (1900-2000)".

November 2014 saw the quarter-century anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, one of the most poignant events in the past century. The inhabitants of Berlin broke the graffiti-covered concrete down with hammers or pickaxes and climbed over the wall. The historic milestone was followed on televisions around the world. After forty years of separation between communism and capitalism, the Iron Curtain opened on November 9th 1989. Which economic and political developments preceded this event? The arrival of Gorbachev in 1985 ushered in the Glasnost period. With this, hope for more liberty of action in Eastern Europe grew in satellite states such as Poland and Hungary. In 1989, the Communists in Hungary decided to hold free elections. In the summer of that year, the same happened in Poland. That same summer, the Hungarians began to remove the barbed wire at the Hungarian-Austrian border. Through this gap, East Germans fled en masse from Hungarian campsites to the West. It was the prelude to the dramatic decision of the GDP to open the border on November 9th 1989.

The invention of the hot air balloon in 1783 caused a sensation which would last for more than a century. The great aeronaut Jean-Pierre Blanchard and his fellow pioneers were followed by many others, whose lift-off attracted masses of people again and again. The subsequent “balloon mania” created a new element in cultural history: the third dimension, reflected in the literary and visual arts as well as in high culture and popular imagination. Scenes from a Balloon skilfully endeavours to reconstruct the sensation the balloon caused in cultural history of the late eighteenth and nineteenth century in Europe and the United States. After Thomas Baldwin produced the first image from a balloon in 1785, reproduction of remarkable prints, paintings, and photographs gained widespread popularity. Balloons inspired well-known photographers and artists, including Nadar, Spelterini, Goya, Manet, Daumier, and Redon, but they also led to a wealth of arts & crafts and popular souvenirs. The adventures of Blanchard, Nadar and other balloonists were a source of inspiration for popular writers like Edgar Allan Poe, Jules Verne, and Mark Twain.
