Tillage agriculture has led to widespread soil and ecosystem degradation globally. This is especially so in Africa where traditional and modern tillage-based agricultural practices have become unsustainable due to severe disturbance and exploitation of natural resources, with negative impacts on the environment and rural livelihoods. In addition, agriculture in Africa today faces major challenges including increased costs of production and energy, the effects of climate change, and the lack of an effective paradigm for sustainable intensification, especially for small- and medium-size holdings. Africa is facing a serious challenge to food security and as a continent has not advanced towards eradicating hunger. In addition, the population is still growing much faster than on most other continents. This pressure has led to the emergence of no-till conservation agriculture as a serious alternative sustainable agriculture paradigm. In Africa, in recent years, conservation agriculture techniques and methods have spread to many countries, as greater development, education and research effort are directed towards its extension and uptake. This book is aimed at agricultural researchers and scientists, educationalists, and agricultural service providers, institutional leaders and policy makers working in the fields of sustainable agriculture and international development, and also at agroecologists, conservation scientists, and those working on ecosystem services. Postmodern, postcolonial and post-truth are broadly used terms. But where do they come from? When and why did the habit of interpreting the world in post-terms emerge? And who exactly were the 'post boys' responsible for this? Post-everything examines why post-Christian, post-industrial and post-bourgeois were terms that resonated, not only among academics, but also in the popular press. It delves into the historical roots of postmodern and poststructuralist, while also subjecting more recent post-constructions (posthumanist, postfeminist) to critical scrutiny. This study is the first to offer a comprehensive history of post-concepts. In tracing how these concepts found their way into a broad range of genres and disciplines, Post-everything contributes to a rapprochement between the history of the humanities and the history of the social sciences.

Karl Kraus wurde am 28. April 1874 im nordböhmischen Gitschin / Österreich-Ungarn (heute: Jicín / Tschechien) als Sohn eines jüdischen Papierfabrikanten geboren. In Wien studierte er seit 1877 Jura, Philosophie und Germanistik, schloß das Studium jedoch nicht ab. Schon während der Studienzeit veröffentlichte er literaturkritische Beiträge u.a. in der Zeitschrift Die Gesellschaft. Daneben betätigte er sich als Dramatiker, Lyriker und Vortragskünstler und hatte Kontakt zu Mitgliedern der Gruppe "Jung-Wien", u.a. Arthur Schnitzler und Hugo von Hofmannsthal, von denen er sich aber 1897 in der Satire Die demolierte Literatur distanzierte. 1899 gründete er die Zeitschrift Die Fackel. Sie war zeitlebens die wichtigste Veröffentlichungsplattform für seine kulturkritischen Beiträge. Er starb am 12. Juni 1936 in Wien.

Adelbert von Chamisso (Louis Charles Adelaide de Ch.), Dichter und Naturforscher, wurde am 30.1.1781 als Sohn eines lothringischen Offizers auf Schloß Boncourt (Champagne) geboren und starb am 21.1.1838 in Berlin. Seine nach der Konfiskation gänzlich verarmten Eltern flüchteten 1790 mit dem Kind vor der Fränzöischen Revolution nach Lüttich. Von dort kamen sie über Den Haag, Düsseldorf und Bayreuthz nach Berlin. Dort wurde Chamisso 1801 Leutnant mit einem preußischen Regiment. Vom Millitärdienst enttäuscht, nahm er 1806 seinen Abschied und widmete sich in Frankreich und auf dem Gut der Mme. de Stael naturwissenschaftliche Studien. 1812-1815 Studium der Medizin und Botanik in Berlin. 1815-1818 nahm Chamisso als Naturforscheran einer russischen Weltumsegelung teil, die er in seinen "Bemerkungen und Ansichten auf einer Entdeckungsreise" (1821) schilderte. Seine symbolische Novelle vom verkauften Schatten, "Peter Schlemihls wundersame Geschichte", schrieb er während der Freiheitskriege 1813 in Kunersdorf. In fast alle Weltsprachen übersetzt, machte sie ihren Verfasser weltberühmt. Die reizvollsten Illustrationen zu "Peter Schlemihls wundersame Geschichte" erschienen 1908. Mit ihren hat Emil Preetouris (1883-1973) - Mitarbeiter der Zeitschriften "Simplicissismus" und "Jugend" - seine Laufbahn als Erneuerer der Buchkunst und als einer der einflußreichsten Graphiker unseres Jahrhunderts begonnen. Seine Essay "Adelbert von Chamisso" schrieb Thomas Mann 19211 eigens für die Einzelausgabe dieser Novelle.
