While "genomics" is becoming a household term, knowing the genome of an organism alone provides relatively little information. Between the genome and the final organism is the "transcriptome" that tells us which genes are expressed and translated into proteins in a certain cell or tissue of an organism at a given time and specific situation. The transcriptome tells you what genes are being "transcribed" at any given moment, providing the wealth of data and specificity of proteomics with the relative ease of study of genetics. Transcriptomics technology thus has myriad uses, and the goal of this book is to showcase the extraordinary diversity of ways transcriptomics can be utilised in entomological research, from basic to applied, from ecology to physiology to agricultural.

Se trata de una colección de manuscritos, relatos y pensamientos escritos de manera intermitente durante un período de más de cuarenta años en el diario de un combatiente, durante las batallas de la Guerra de los Seis Días y tras ellas. Aquí se pinta una amarga y cruel realidad: cómo soldados matan, son heridos y mueren en el campo de batalla. Aquí se describen hechos entremezclados con imaginación y sueños. Se trata de una descripción que ejemplifica la índole de la sociedad masculina en el ejército israelí, con su combinación de ingenio, tosquedad e inocencia. Este libro fue escrito en el frente de batalla en el norte de Samaria y en el norte de los Altos del Golán. El autor sirvió en el cuerpo de blindados, como comandante de una compañía formada por seis vehículos. Todos estos manuscritos estaban atascados como balas en el cañón de un arma desde el fin de la guerra antes de que estuvieran listos para su recopilación en un volumen que incluye ahora las vivencias y la perspectiva de otro período de más de cuarenta años. Yehuda Reves es un silvicultor que durante toda su vida ha observado a personas, árboles, arbustos, el suelo y rocas inanimadas con un asombro inalterado. Ha tenido a su cargo la recolección de semillas y la propagación y plantación de árboles por cuenta del Departamento de Silvicultura de Israel. Hoy día viaja y se ocupa de la reproducción de plantas silvestres del Mediterráneo. El autor sirvió durante 32 años como oficial subalterno de reserva en el ejército israelí y participó en cuatro guerras. Está casado y tiene dos hijas y nueve nietos.

El presente volumen reúne una serie de textos escritos y publicados en las dos primeras décadas del siglo XXI, que abordan los problemas y objetos tradicionales de la semiótica fílmica y audiovisual, o que proponen nuevos objetos de indagación, nuevas preguntas. La primera parte está consagrada a las teorías generales, y en ella tiene preponderancia el denominado “giro cognitivo” de los estudios fílmicos, a partir de traducciones de textos inéditos en castellano: la teoría del flujo PECMA del investigador danés Torben Grodal; la semántica cognitiva aplicada a la interpretación audiovisual del británico Warren Buckland, o una nueva aproximación a la experiencia del espectador frente al dispositivo audiovisual por parte de Todd Oakley. En esta parte también se incluyen traducciones de dos textos de Roger Odin, pionero del enfoque semiopragmático, que permiten ver su pertinencia para abordar tanto problemas de la historia del cine y el audiovisual, como de sus manifestaciones contemporáneas.
