        Ichneumonid Wasps (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae)

        Their Classification and Biology

by Gavin R. Broad, Mark R. Shaw, Michael G. Fitton

The hymenopteran family Ichneumonidae comprises one of the largest single animal families. With around 2,300 British species, almost 10% of British insect species are ichneumonids. They can be found everywhere and studying them is very rewarding, but it is not without its difficulties. This book provides an extensively illustrated key for the identification of the 35 subfamilies of Ichneumonidae known to occur in Britain and Ireland (plus Brachycyrtinae, not yet found here). This is supported by chapters for each subfamily giving a comprehensive review of current knowledge on systematics, biology and host relations together with notes on useful recognition features and references to the most relevant species-level identification literature concerning the British Isles. Included in each British and Irish subfamily account is a folio of photographs covering all recognised tribes.

        Managing Hospitality Experiences

by Alexandra J Kenyon, Peter Robinson, James Musgrave

Experience is a crucial part of the hospitality industry, and must be carefully managed if it is to succeed. The first textbook to focus on experience specifically, this book provides a full and detailed insight into the ways in which experiences are designed and delivered. It covers management issues such as marketing, human resources, operations, quality management, facilities management, project management, and strategy, while considering hospitality operations within their wider geo-social and geo-environmental settings. Including a range of important contemporary topics such as overtourism, resilience and ethics, it is supported throughout by learning objectives, case studies, review questions, links to videos and further reading suggestions, and forms an invaluable read for students of hospitality and event management.

        Exhibiting the Empire

Cultures of display and the British Empire

by John McAleer, Andrew Thompson, John M. MacKenzie, John M. MacKenzie

Exhibiting the empire considers how a whole range of cultural products - from paintings, prints, photographs, panoramas and 'popular' texts to ephemera, newspapers and the press, theatre and music, exhibitions, institutions and architecture - were used to record, celebrate and question the development of the British Empire. It represents a significant and original contribution to our understanding of the relationship between culture and empire. Written by leading scholars from a range of disciplinary backgrounds, individual chapters bring fresh perspectives to the interpretation of media, material culture and display, and their interaction with history. Taken together, this collection suggests that the history of empire needs to be, in part at least, a history of display and of reception. This book will be essential reading for scholars and students interested in British history, the history of empire, art history and the history of museums and collecting.

        Constructing kingship

The Capetian monarchs of France and the early Crusades

by S. H. Rigby, James Naus

Crusading kings such as Louis IX of France and Richard I of England exert a unique hold on our historical imagination. For this reason, it can be easy to forget that European rulers were not always eager participants in holy war. The First Crusade was launched in 1095, and yet the first monarch did not join the movement until 1146, when the French king Louis VII took the cross to lead the Second Crusade. One contemporary went so far as to compare the crusades to 'Creation and man's redemption on the cross', so what impact did fifty years of non-participation have on the image and practice of European kingship and the parameters of cultural development? Constructing kingship considers this question by examining the challenge to political authority that confronted the French kings and their family members as a direct result of their failure to join the early crusades, and their less-than-impressive involvement in later ones.

Wittgenstein im Kontext der analytischen Philosophie

by Peter M. S. Hacker, Peter M. S. Hacker, Joachim Schulte
