The Classic of Mountains and Seas (Picture Version)

        by Huang Xuran, Tang Sulan

"The Classic of Mountains and Seas (Picture Version)" is a children's traditional cultural enlightenment book with a fresh perspective. Selected representative and interesting chapters in "The Classic of Mountains and Seas" were drawn into the book, which depicts a series of images in "The Classic of Mountains and Seas" such as water systems, mountains, vegetations, trees, mountain gods, sacred beasts, water monsters, etc. In this imaginative picture book, images are vivid and the story theme is ups and downs. The author extracts nourishment from the profound ancient myths, and then creates new stories that children can understand. The whole book takes a retro and creative form with concise and simple text and simple and freehand ink painting through the mountain and sea scriptures, depicting a mythical world where the heavens and the earth are prevalent and the gods and monsters are in chaos.

A Chance for One Last Love

        by Hassan Dawood

A sweeping historical saga about a city that defies the eroding power of time   In one of the first Arabic novels about the COVID-19 pandemic, relationships begin and end much like the pandemic itself. From his balcony in Beirut, Ezzat notices a solitary light on a lone balcony in the building opposite. From that moment, a connection begins to form across the empty space between the buildings, communicated through the air and signals.   The events unfold after the owner of the shadow steps out onto her balcony, confronting the voyeur. They share time, confusion... and desire. Ezzat and Tamer successively both fall in love with the same woman, and a cautious friendship develops between the two men. It soon evolves into more dangerous forms.   The story also portrays the experiences of other building residents during the pandemic, who imposed strict isolation on themselves. The protagonists, particularly the two elderly lovers, live on the edge of catastrophic expectations, as when they imagine that a woman pressing the intercom downstairs to ask for food could be a sign of an impending widespread famine. The story does not conclude in a stalemate but rather with losers.

        Love for Northeast China

by Laoteng, whose real name is Teng Zhenfu, is a member of the Tenth Presidium of the China Writers Association and is currently the Party Secretary and Chairman of the Liaoning Writers Association. He has published ten novels, includingThe Northeast China, The Numerous Armed Conflicts, and The Forests of Beizhang;eight collections of novels, such as The Black Thrush and A City Without Crows; and three cultural essays, such as Confucian Notes. He has won the 15th and 16th Five-One Project Awards, respectively, and The Northeast China has been selected on the list of 2021 Chinese Good Books.

"Never invest beyond theShanhai Pass", as the saying goes. The particular cultural environment and openness make the brain drain in Northeast China extremely serious. However, Miao Qing, a seemingly delicate doctoral student from a famous school, resolutely went northward because she had a personal plan thatwas related to both her father and herself, namely, to design a world-leading large aircraft. Her father once said that just as a poet without imagination must be a lousy poet, a country without advanced aircraft could never escape the fate of a backward country. For this reason, Miao Qing started her career atKunpeng Group, later went to Feiying Company to produce a leading small low-altitude aerial drone, and then sheplayed the leading role in the national G-31 project that designed a stealth supersonic aircraft and made a successful trial flight.

The First Year of the Love Calendar

        by Wang Yuewen

Sun Li, the protagonist of the novel, is a bestseller writer and his wife Xizi is the head of a university library. Their son Sun Yichi has been rebellious and unruly since childhood, remaining distant from his mother. Afraid of the exhaustion of his creativity, the middle-aged Sun Li begins to question the meaning of his writings. He thus suffers from serious insomnia and anxiety. Just at this time, his wife Xizi begins to have her own amorous secrets. Sun Li also finds himself unable to leave Li Qiao, director of New Evening Paper. These affairs have pushed their seemingly peaceful family life to the verge of collapse. The love calendar refers to the calendar that belongs only to Sun Li and his wife Xizi for their love. But such turbulent life experience has caused them to temporarily betray their love calendar … They eventually begin again the first year of their love calendar. Through the depiction of the love, marriage, and family life of Sun Li and Xizi, the novel becomes a retrospection of the spiritual tendency, emotional development and love pattern of the Chinese over the past 20 to 30 years. It also vividly outlines the changes of social mores in China over the past years in a figurative way. Even amorous entanglements are not devoid of elements of the officialdom, with honest and corrupt officials still on the scene. According to Wang Yuewen, this is an element of reality rather than of officialdom – “after all nobody can live in a vacuum space”.

        Love Amateurs

        by Aleksandar Prokopiev

Anti-hero, and a would-be lover whose longing turns him into a buffoon: Prokopiev’s book is, surprisingly, a very English type.  Heir to Shakespeare’s Bottom, Henry Fielding’s trickster Tom Jones, and even Kingsley Amis’s Lucky Jim, he could also share a pint or two with the deprecating genii loci of today’s British poetry: Alan Brownjohn’s Ludbrooke, Christopher Reid’s Mr Mouth or one of Hugo Williams’s frank self-portraits. But Peeper also belongs to the wider family of “the little man”, struggling under a weight of circumstance he has no notion how to negotiate. Living among, without managing to live by, conventions, the Peeper is a descendent of that wry Everyman who has suffered and been compromised since mediaeval times. He is a Good Soldier Svejk, a Charlie Chaplin, more than he is a Humbert Humbert or an Alexander Portnoy.

        The Magic Bird

by Ken Spillman and Malavika PC

A lone bird hungry for magic pecks at alphabet shapes. It looks through glass windows of book stores and glances at the t-shirts of pedestrians with the hope of solving the mystery hidden behind those letters. Soon, the words become familiar and the bird determinedly starts collecting scraps of paper to build a nest, wanting to hatch its ideas with warmth and nurture them through potential and free imagination. The unusual combination of Ken Spillman’s simple yet eloquent prose and Malavika PC’s inspired images combine in perfect harmony to express the powerful story of The Magic Bird. The bird reminds the reader of the extraordinary components which create something as ordinary as language, and the value of spreading our wings to take stories to others.

        The Family of Love

        By Lording Barry

        by Helen Ostovich, Sophie Tomlinson

The Family of Love charts a successful love intrigue between the cash-strapped Gerardine, and Maria, the sequestered niece of the mercenary Doctor Glister. Their romance unfolds against the dissection of two citizen marriages, the Glisters' and the Purges'. Mistress Purge attends Familist meetings independently, arousing her husband's suspicions about her marital fidelity. Two libertines, Lipsalve and Gudgeon, go in search of sex and solubility (freedom from constipation), receiving more than they bargain for in respect of the latter. This scholarly edition of Family of Love marks the first occasion on which the comedy is attributed to Lording Barry in print. It brings together literary and historical discussion with a thorough analysis of the play's disputed authorship. Tomlinson highlights Barry's rich vein of burlesque humour in a comedy that combines magic, a trunk, and a mock-court session with vigorous colloquial language.

Guess who will come to love me

        by Chang Li

The Picture Book of Philosophical Stories for Children inspired by four Chinese and foreign literary classics (Tales from a Carefree Studio, Moby Dick, Don Quixote, and A Midsummer Night's Dream), this book carefully retells the works of four famous writers - Pu Songling, Herman Melville, Cervantes, and Shakespeare - all set in the context of modern children's lives, containing profound philosophical ideas, and skillfully incorporating the true meaning of wisdom and discernment. The form of this book is children's favorite picture books style, so that children can talk to literary classics and understand the philosophy in the stories. Against Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream", retaining the magic plot, taken from the prankster elf Puck, the "comedy of errors touching", to present a sense of intricate comedy in the form of a play within a play. A brother who feels neglected by his family because of the birth of his sister, with the help of a poker elf, manages to make life even more chaotic ... Of course, everything is eventually resolved successfully.

Omni Learning Center Guide to Manners and Etiquette

        by Lorraine Gerstl

Maanners are polite behaviors that reflect an attitude of consideration, kindness and respect for others. They are learned behaviors to be used every day to make a good impression on others and to feel good about yourself. Good manners go beyond opening doors and writing thank you notes. The really polite person is tuned in to other people's feelings and can put herself or himself in another person's shoes. Using good manners encourages others to act in a similar fashion.Etiquette expresses consideration, respect, and honesty, the three qualities that stand behind all the manners we have. Etiquette is timeless and crosses cultural boundaries, unlike manners, which can change over time and differ around the world. Without proper manners and etiquette, the customs of polite society would soon disappear and we would act more like animals and less like people.Good manners are a powerful source of self-confidence and help facilitate life’s relationships in general. Manners are important for considering the feelings of other people and being the kind of person others will like and respect., “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you,” the Golden Rule, exists in every culture on the planet.Good manners impress people and put them at ease. And people who are impressed and relaxed are more likely to respect you and agree to your requests. Manners make the world a better place. Best of all, good manners don’t cost a thing. You can have the very best for free!Lorraine Gerstl bestselling author of Omni Guide to Reading Comprehension Strategies, is truly a woman for all seasons! The Anglo-American new world order from Wilson to Bush

        by Andrew Williams

        The main purpose of this book is to explain how (mainly) American, but also British and other Western, policy makers have planned and largely managed to create an international order in their own image, the so-called 'New World Order'. It shows how this seismic shift in international relations has developed through the major global wars of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. It uses a wide variety of historical archival material to give the background to the current and historical American obsession with creating the world order, one that both reflects the American national interest but also can be said to have established the major security, economic, organisational and normative pillars of our epoch. In addition it provides excellent background reading for the current debate about American foreign policy and the origins of 'neo-conservatism' in international relations. This edition updates a very successful first edition of the title, with additional material to take into account changes in the global order since 2001 and the beginning of the 'War on Terror'. ;
