The domestication of wheat, more than any other plant, has allowed food to be produced in sufficient quantities to support community settlement, cultural development and population growth. Disease resistance is one of the major factors that can be improved to sustain yield potential in cultivated crops. While botanically quite different, coffee, cocoa and tea are often considered together in the teaching of students of horticulture or agriculture.
