Das Vertrauen in Politik und Parteien ist auf einem historischen Tiefstand, die Protestbewegung des Kabarettisten Beppe Grillo wurde bei den Parlamentswahlen zur zweitstärksten Partei; Matteo Renzi, von den Medien als Hoffnungsträger gefeiert, kungelt mit seinem skandalumwitterten Vorgänger Berlusconi und feiert den ehemaligen englischen Premierminister Tony Blair als Vorbild, obwohl dieser in seiner Heimat längst zur persona non grata geworden ist. In seinem vielbeachteten Essay präsentiert der Historiker Perry Anderson eine Chronologie des italienischen Desasters. Italien betrachtet er dabei nicht als »Anomalie innerhalb Europas, sondern als eine Art Konzentrat« der Probleme eines Kontinents, der zunehmend von Entdemokratisierung, Korruption und Wachstumsschwäche gekennzeichnet ist.

Joseph occupies a marginal place inside the theological discourse, unlike Mary. Yet, he also reflects important issues of our time, linked to the debate on identity, relationships and functions of being in the world as men and women, and in terms of living in a church made up of men and women. Freed from hagiographic stereotypes and strictly apologetic purposes, Joseph becomes the emblem of a masculinity that is now more than ever in question: what does it mean for a male to feel himself as a subject, as a person? What does it mean to share a journey of substantial relationships and to generate life together? What does it mean to take care of the world, in the plurality of its possible expressions (politics, profession, civil commitment)? This book starts an original path, expression of the fruitful intertwining that theology intends to establish with other cultural approaches. It discloses a set of “looks” – historical, biblical, sociological, theological, pastoral ... – aimed at Saint Joseph, a figure of a masculinity that questions us. Today, we need creative and innovative individuals, who think critically, are capable of learning how to learn, and are able to solve complex challenges. People who communicate effectively in transdisciplinary fields in order to work collaboratively. Citizens with a global vision that are aware of local needs, who make decisions based not only on their own wellbeing, but that of the communities and the planet, understanding that sustainable solutions balance these three. These skills can be cultivated through design thinking, which promotes project-based learning, theorizing from an initial challenge or brief. Biodesign in highschools presents a pedagogical proposal that combines scientific topics with a creative approach in order to open a wide range of possibilities, equipping future generations to respond to the challenges and needs the world presents today.

For each character, a brief biography and a text is included that seeks to connect the reader to the woman being honored, mixing real information with fictitious events: some occur in the future, others explore the most intimate dimension of the protagonist or personify her through poetry. The illustrations and stories that make up this book seek to make visible the importance of women in the immense number of areas from which they have been systematically excluded: science, art, technology, sports, activism and academia, among others. In this way, the book concentrates different aspects of feminist struggles capable of transcending time and space.
