        Gesammelte Werke

        Bände 1 bis 5

        by Juan Carlos Onetti

by Juan Carlos Onetti, Wilhelm Muster

Willkommen, Bob. Gesammelte Erzählungen, 1999) in Buenos Aires. Am 30. Mai desselben Jahres starb Juan Carlos Onetti 84-jährig in Madrid.

        Bovine Tuberculosis

by Mark Chambers, Stephen Gordon, Francisco Olea-Popelka, Paul Barrow

This book is contemporary, topical and global in its approach, and provides an essential, comprehensive treatise on bovine tuberculosis and the bacterium that causes it, Mycobacterium bovis. Bovine tuberculosis remains a major cause of economic loss in cattle industries worldwide, exacerbated in some countries by the presence of a substantial wildlife reservoir. It is a major zoonosis, causing human infection through consumption of unpasteurised milk or by close contact with infected animals. Following a systematic approach, expert international authors cover epidemiology and the global situation; microbial virulence and pathogenesis; host responses to the pathogen; and diagnosis and control of the disease. Aimed at researchers and practising veterinarians, this book is essential for those needing comprehensive information on the pathogen and disease, and offers a summary of key information learned from human tuberculosis research. It will be useful to those studying the infection and for those responsible for controlling the disease.

Molecular and Physiological Basis of Nematode Survival

by Bishwo Adhikari, John Barrett, Ann Burnell, Byron Adams, Eileen Devaney, Warwick Grant, Richard Grencis, Parwinder S Grewal, William Harnett, Maurice Moens, Geert Smant, Ralf Sommer, Mark Viney, Denis J Wright, Jose Lozano, Matthias Hermann, Alan Tunnacliffe, Xiaodong Bai, Ganpati B. Jagdale. Edited by Roland N Perry, David A Wharton.

Nematodes are renowned for their ability to survive severe environmental fluctuations. Their mechanisms to withstand temperature extremes, desiccation, and osmotic and ionic stress are presented here together with information on the underlying biochemical basis contributing to survival. Highlighting parallels and contrasts between parasitic and free-living nematode groups, this book integrates strategies that enable nematodes to persist in the absence of food with tactics used by parasitic forms to survive the defence responses of a plant or animal host. This functional study is an essential resource for researchers in nematology, parasitology and zoology.

‘Survival Capitalism’ and the Big Bang

Culture, contingency and capital in the making of the 1980s financial revolution

        by Emma Barrett

This book about the Thatcher government and the City of London tells the compelling human story of the people and processes that made Britain's 1980s financial revolution. Fusing insider testimony with new archival discoveries, it examines high stakes and networked solutions, and uncovers new objectives that drove reforms. In so doing it demystifies a major shift in capitalism. This has implications for our understandings of government and capitalism, from the way we think about the origins of subsequent financial crises to today's growing inequalities. Survival Capitalism offers new insights into the last major restructuring of the City, disrupts myths surrounding the logics of the market, and pays attention to people and processes at a time when the City of London again faces major change as Britain seeks to find its place outside the European Union in the wake of Brexit.

Collector's Edition of Illustrations of Yan Zhen's Works: Above Living

        by Yan Zhen

"Above Living" is a novel by Yan Zhen. The author uses meticulous meticulous brushwork to describe college life and academic ecology one by one. From the examination and employment of doctoral students, to the work and life of college teachers, the distribution of papers and page fees, academic seminars, awards, application for topics, competition for administrative positions, and even the application and acquisition of students' election cadres, examinations, and grants Wait, there are so many stories about corruption in colleges and universities, which are rarely encountered by readers outside colleges. He even wrote about the real situation of another type of intellectuals, represented by "I", who have conscience and pursuit, but have no choice but to survive in the real environment. Although these people have also succumbed to reality, they still have a trace of longing for the independent personality of Chinese traditional intellectuals deep in their hearts. The special feature of "Above Living" is that it has a detailed description of the academic ecology and "survival" ecology of colleges and universities, which is of pioneering significance, and is happy to see by people who care about education and knowledge communities. Moreover, this novel is written with great meaning, with the height of literature and the height of thinking.

Illustrations of Quarantine Pests for Europe

by Edited by I M Smith, Anne S Roy

This book is a companion volume to Quarantine Pests for Europe, published originally in 1992 by the European and Mediterranean Plant Protection Organization (EPPO) and CAB INTERNATIONAL (CABI) for the European Union. The previous book provides information on identity, hosts, geographical distribution, biology, detection and identification, means of movement and dispersal, pest significance, phytosanitary measures and a bibliography for all the quarantine pests listed by EPPO and the European Union, but does not contain any illustrations. A second edition of Quarantine Pests for Europe will be published at the end of 1996. The present book contains approximately 400 colour illustrations, most of them new in relation to the very first illustrations of the EPPO Data Sheets which appeared in Bulletin OEPP/EPPO Bulletin in the 1980s. The book covers most of the quarantine pests listed by EPPO and the European Union, including those which have been added to the quarantine lists since 1992. Thus it will be compatible with the second edition of the volume of text data sheets. The quarantine pests concerned are either not present in the Euro-Mediterranean region, or only present to a limited extent and submitted to official control measures. The sequence of presentation is as for the text volume, i.e. insects, nematodes, fungi, bacteria, viruses, parasitic plants. Within each chapter, the pest illustrations appear in alphabetical order. An index including scientific names and synonyms is included at the end of the book. Accompanying text is presented in both English and French. Although it has not been possible to illustrate every listed quarantine pest, this book provides a unique collection that will help phytosanitary inspectors, plant health officers, and others working in the field of plant quarantine, or plant protection in general, to recognize and identify quarantine pests. The book is published by EPPO in association with CABI, and is available for sale exclusively through CABI.

Selection Indices and Prediction of Genetic Merit in Animal Breeding

        by Neil D Cameron

This book describes the methodology for predicting the genetic merit of animals in the context of genetic improvement in an animal breeding programme. Information on an animal and its relatives, on either the characteristic to be improved or from other traits, can be used to predict the animal’s genetic merit, taking account of the relationships between measurements and the economic values of traits. The methodology is developed from first principles, without unnecessary detail or complexity, and all the required statistical and mathematical concepts are fully described in the book. The text discusses the methods for combining different sources of information and illustrates their use with examples of breeding programmes in cattle, sheep, pigs and poultry. A series of questions with detailed answers is included in the book, to help reinforce the ideas and provide some practical experience in the prediction of genetic merit. The text is aimed at final year undergraduate and first year postgraduate students of quantitative genetics and animal breeding.

        Abschied von Don Juan

        Roman. Spanische Bibliothek

        by Esther Tusquets, Angelica Ammar

        Echo of Someone Else’s War

        by Juan Miramar

The works of Juan Miramar presented in this book, as always, are distinguished by refined language, subtle humor and a peculiar philosophical view of life, as well as a bright oriental flavor. The story "Echo of Someone Else’s War" impresses with its fascinating dynamic plot. A scientist and writer, a former translator of international peacekeeping forces, suddenly finds himself in the thick of events of a modern secret war. The distant past extends its tentacles into the present, not only forcing the main character to remember his military experience, but also prompting him to choose a side in Arab and non-Arab conflicts that are foreign to him.
