        The four dimensions of power

        Understanding domination, empowerment and democracy

        by Mark Haugaard

In this accessible and sophisticated exploration of the nature and workings of social and political power, Haugaard examines the interrelation between domination and empowerment. Building upon the perspectives of Steven Lukes, Michel Foucault, Amy Allen, Hannah Arendt, Anthony Giddens, Pierre Bourdieu and others, he offers a clear theoretical framework, delineating power in four interrelated dimensions. The first and second dimensions of power entail two different types of social conflict. The third dimension concerns tacit knowledge, uses of truth and reification. Drawing upon genealogical theory and accounts of slavery as social death, the fourth dimension of power concerns the power to create social subjects. The book concludes with an original normative pragmatist power-based account of democracy. Offering lucid and entertaining illustrations of complex theoretical perspectives, this book is essential reading for scholars and activists.

        Die fünfte Dimension

        Eine Erzählung

        by Wolfgang Komm

Wer redet?

        Agricultural Biotechnology and Intellectual Property

        Seeds of Change

        by Edited by Jay Kesan

Scientists are becoming progressively more involved in developing methods for increasing agricultural productivity and designing plants with certain qualities. As such, genetic engineering has given plant breeders a means to exercise property rights over different varieties of plants. This has created many implications and given way to much controversy, with most objections being raised against the idea of owning life. With the use of comparative studies, this book discusses the legal, agribusiness and public policy issues that connect intellectual property protection with advancements in agricultural biotechnology.

Intellectual Property Rights in Agricultural Biotechnology, 2nd Edition

by Edited by Frederic H Erbisch, Karim M Maredia

During the past twenty-five years, biotechnology has revolutionized agricultural research. The enormous potential, together with a landmark decision by the US Supreme Court to allow the patenting of genetically-engineered organisms has encouraged private sector companies to invest in agricultural biotechnology research programmes. This has contributed to a rapid growth in interest in intellectual property rights as applied to this subject. The first edition of this book was published in 1998. Now fully revised and updated it presents definitive information on intellectual property law in a simplified form (with a minimum of legal jargon). New chapters have been added which cover plant variety protection and farmers rights, and additional case studies.

Study on Dong Minority's Festivals and Measures of Intellectual Property Protection

        by Wu Bo

Dong Minority boasts abundant folk festivals that needs intellectual property protection. To conduct such measure is the tendency of protection of intangible cultural heritage, and also the necessary operation technique. Due to its special historical causes, the Wa people have formed a large number of folk festivals and have rich festival cultural resources. Therefore, the protection of property rights of festival resources is not only a development trend of intangible cultural heritage protection, but also a necessary operation technology. The draft of this book draws on the construction of the intellectual property protection system of the Dai folk festivals from the distribution characteristics, cultural values, inheritance protection, development and utilization of the Dai folk festivals, and guides the administrative forces and civil society to make reasonable use of the Dai folk festivals Protect development. The draft was listed as the 2010 National Social Science Fund Project "Research on the Protection and Countermeasures of the Intellectual Property Rights of the Dong Folk Festival".

        Das Ende der politischen Utopie?

        by Richard Saage

Time and Relative Dissertations in Space

        Critical Perspectives on Doctor Who

        by Edited by David Butler

Time and relative dissertations in space takes the reader on a rich and varied study of one of the greatest television programmes of all time: Doctor Who. This book is the first study of Doctor Who to explore the Doctor's adventures in all their manifestations: on television, audio, in print and beyond. Although focusing on the original series (1963-89), the collection recognises that Doctor Who is a cultural phenomenon that has been 'told' in many ways through a myriad of texts. Combining essays from academics as well as practitioners who have contributed to the ongoing narrative of Doctor Who, the collection encourages debate with contrasting opinions on the strengths (and weaknesses) of the programme, offering a multi-perspective view of Doctor Who and the reasons for its endurance.

Animales en el aire de papel (Paper's animals in the air)

        by Manuel Marín

Paper is not a boring surface if the chicharreta, lilibela, or totoleta wait to be detached, folded and bent to reveal their tridimensional volume, their balance and dimension in space. They allow us to reflect on and understand the role they play in the artistic creation of space and shape. It’s an experience that brings us closer to the basic elements of modern art.
