Parasitoid wasps are cosmopolitan, numerous and enormously diverse with probably one million or more species worldwide, most of which occur in moist tropics. The ecological importance of this group of insects is enormous although perhaps most evident in their major roles in the control of insect pest populations. In natural ecosystems they are integral in regulating populations of a vast number of insects, and therefore are key players in terrestrial food webs. Knowledge of their biology is still very poor because the current state of taxonomy is still in its infancy in many parts of the world. In this book, we provide an overview of the more than 30 families of parasitoid wasps that are found in the 11 countries in South East Asia. Particular emphasis is given to the most commonly encountered and reared, and those used as natural enemies in biological control programmes. In addition, outlines of the biology, ecology and behaviour of each family and important subfamily are presented. The current state of taxonomy in the region is summarised using distribution maps. Other chapters cover basic morphology, terminology and identification, collecting and rearing in the tropics, food web construction, and the molecular revolution in identification of difficult taxonomic groups. All groups are photographically illustrated. This book will be of value to professional entomologists, academics, entomology students and the growing body of amateur entomologists and insect photographers.

It is well known that infrastructure development projects can boost the economy and reduce the cost of trade in both developing and developed economies, however, infrastructure projects can also cause biodiversity loss. This book is the result of an important biodiversity survey conducted along an East African railway in Tanzania. The building of the railway, still under construction, has already led to habitat loss, habitat degradation and landscape change which may have affected biodiversity. The book includes recommendations to mitigate the effect of railway construction by protecting biodiversity and ecosystem services which could have major implications across Africa and other regions. The area covered by the survey focuses on the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) running through the Pugu and Ruvu South Forest Reserves towards Maktupora-Dodoma, plus data on large mammals through to Isaka-Shinyanga. The Pugu forests boast high biodiversity of both flora and fauna, some of which are endemic to the area. There are both plant and animal species that are of major conservation concern so there is urgent need to consolidate information to help formulate suitable conservation measures. The data collected covers plants, invertebrates, amphibians, birds, and mammals for terrestrial and aquatic environments along the SGR. This work is timely as there are many more ongoing SGR construction projects in Tanzania and across Africa, as such construction activities inevitably involve some habitat modification and destruction that may have a negative impact on biodiversity. National and international scientists, decision and policy makers, as well as ecologists and conservation managers involved in large infrastructure projects will find this book invaluable. Spiders are among the most omnipresent and numerous predators in both agricultural and natural ecosystems, and without them insect pest populations would become out of control. Their potential as biological control agents can only be appreciated through a greater understanding of their abundance and species composition in different ecological systems. The spider fauna of several cultivated crops, in a number of regions of the world, has been well documented. There have been some previous attempts to record the spider fauna of rice in South and Southeast Asia, but these are scattered in the journal literature. The majority of the species covered were collected from a diversity of habitats in the Philippines. The bulk of the book consists of keys to the identification of families, genera and species of Philippine spiders, illustrated by more than 1000 line drawings and 100 colour photographs. A total of 339 species belonging to 134 genera within 26 families are recognized. Of these, 253 species and seven genera are new to science. Distribution maps for individual species and a classification scheme for Philippine riceland spiders are also provided. Latin America is a complex mosaic of nations, people and landscapes, with unique cultural, scenic and economic resources but with no more than 6% of global international tourist arrivals (World Bank, 2019). The region hosts several top international destinations - such as the Caribbean islands and the sacred city of the Incas, Machu Picchu (Peru). Cities like São Paulo and Mexico City are internationally known for their Meetings Incentives Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) sector. Galapagos (Ecuador) and Fernando de Noronha (Brazil) are areas of significant ecological importance. However, even if some of the destinations are well known internationally, the region is still seen as an untouched source for tourism at global and regional scales. Moreover, the region is still underrepresented in international tourism literature and content for pedagogical and educational purposes still limited. This gap needs to be filled, to help inform tourism developments and to better educate the next generation. This can help shift students and practitioners away from an over-dependence on models and ideas developed and tested in different social and cultural settings that may not be appropriate for a Latin American context. Therefore, this book aims to bring together researchers, students, practitioners and other agents involved with research, teaching and the operation of tourism to share their research and work experiences in Latin America, in the form of case studies focusing on real-world examples.
