To commemorate her, the Qiang people started to gather dew, sing and dance, and worship the mountain gods every year on May fifth of the lunar calendar when azaleas bloom. Over time, this event has evolved into a festival for Qiang women -- that was how the Waerezu Festival has initiated.

»Zur elften Stunde«, so heißt eine Gemarkung im Schloßpark von Greiz. Eine Zeitangabe als Ortsbezeichnung: Wo die Entscheidung fällt? Wenn es schon fast zu spät ist? Greiz liegt auf der Grenze zum Vogtland, Kindheitsland, in das der Dichter mit einigen Texten des neuen Bandes zurückkehrt. Dort schrieb und sang der junge Mann 1968 seine ersten Lieder – gegen die Entartungen des Sozialismus und den Einmarsch der Brudervölker in die Tschechoslowakei. (Ein paar finden sich in der Neuauflage des Bandes Glaubt bloß nicht, daß ich traurig bin.) Er wanderte ins Gefängnis, zweimal – »Und einmal, das Gesicht / im Spiegel: / der war, poliert, / ein Zellenriegel« –, und aus dem Gefängnis Ost per Freikauf ins Notaufnahmelager West. »Am 24. Dezember 1974, als ich um 12 Uhr durch das Lagertor trat, wollte ich nicht sterben.« Gerald Zschorsch wird von einem Auto angefahren. Das Leben in Freiheit beginnt mit einem Unfall. Er hat Glück, denn er kommt mit dem Schrecken davon. Am Anfang seines neuen Gedichtbandes berichtet er davon in einem kurzen Text.

What is even worse, more than 40% of Americans are buying into the politics of fear, dissension, and abuse without stopping for even a moment to consider exactly what these political hatemongers are offering in exchange for turning one faction out and securing the benefits of power for themselves. But regardless of political infighting or outfighting, what we are doing is akin to two fleas fighting over who owns the dog. We don’t seem to realize that we have run out of time and money; that we no longer have the luxury of political gamesmanship and needless, stupid bickering. While this timely book points the finger at who’s to blame, it also goes one step further and tells how America, the most powerful nation on earth, can take back control of its destiny and cure its own disease!
