On May of 1937, during the Spanish Civil War, 456 sons and daughters of republican fighters took the transatlantic boat Mexique, that set sail in Bordeau to arrive in Mexico. Previsions were that they would stay there three or four months, but the Republican defeat and the beginning of the Second World War changed that brief exile into a definitive one. This books tells the story not only of those children, but also about the ship, being aware that we do not know how many boats try to cross our oceans every day, moving human beings that have full rights to a proper way of living and not to stand over a land that tears apart below their feet.

Susana Thénon fue una poeta, traductora y fotógrafa argentina (1935-1991), contemporánea a la generación del ´60 (junto a Alejandra Pizarnik y Juana Bignozzi), sin embargo, es inclasificable, una voz sola, fuera del canon por propia decisión, una figura erguida entre el desasosiego y la ironía, una “distancia” urgente en la poesía argentina del siglo XX. Este libro reúne sus poemas publicados en libros (Edad sin tregua, Habitante de la nada, De lugares extraños, distancias y Ova Completa) y una selección de sus textos inéditos. Abarca también su trabajo como fotógrafa (a lo que se dedicó durante décadas) y traductora e intenta rescatar algo de su pasión por la danza en las fotografías a Iris Scaccheri). Hemos incluido además ensayos publicados en revistas y suplementos literarios y algunas notas breves y afiladas que la propia Susana Thénon escribió sobre el enigma de la poesía. Su juego y libertad con el lenguaje se manifestó de modos diversos entre registros muy variados entre la poesía culta y el lenguaje popular, la mezcla de discursos y temáticas, el predominio de la prosa, la degradación de la cultura, la mezcla violentas de estilos, su ruptura con los lugares comunes y las imposiciones de la sociedad a través del humor, siempre políticamente incorrecta. Está siendo traducida a varias lenguas (inglés, alemán y portugués) y su interés y profunda vigencia (es una poeta cada día más actual) crecen día a día junto a las relecturas por parte de los movimientos feministas en todo el mundo que descubren la continuidad de una tradición feminista en la literatura argentina. Thénon, como ninguna otra poeta, es una poeta desobediente y puede asumir el latido poético de nuevas generaciones políticas y literarias que reclaman por los derechos de las mujeres y disidencias. La reciente reedición de su obra permite el acceso a las nuevas generaciones. La morada imposible [The Impossible Abode] Susana Thénon (1935–1991) was an Argentinian poet, translator and photographer, a contemporary of the Sixties Generation along with Alejandra Pizarnik and Juana Bignozzi. Yet by her own decision, she remains outside the canon, an isolated and unclassifiable voice, an upstanding figure somewhere in the territory between disquiet and irony, an urgent ‘distance’ in twentieth-century Argentine poetry. This volume brings together her published books of poems: Edad sin tregua [Age Without Truce], Habitante de la nada [Inhabitant of Nothing], De lugares extraños [On Strange Places], Distancias [Distances] and Ova completa [Complete Ova], as well as a selection of unpublished texts. It also covers her photographic work, to which she devoted herself for decades, as well as her translations, while also bringing to life her passion for dance in her photographs of Iris Scaccheri. We have also included essays published in literary journals and supplements, as well as some short, incisive articles that Susana Thénon wrote on the enigma of poetry. Her playfulness and freedom with language manifested itself in a variety registers: high poetry and popular vernacular, a mixture of discourses and themes, the predominance of prose, the degradation of culture, the violent clash of styles, a break with commonplaces and the impositions of society through humour (always politically incorrect!). Her work is currently being translated into several languages (English, German and Portuguese). In Living Memory

Mariano is headed to the adventure of his dreams: running uphill with his motorcycle, in the company of his friends and sing out loud as the engines roar. However, as his bliss begins, he and a group of other people gets kidnapped. The criminals hurt and humiliate all of their victims and demand large amounts of money as ransoms. Slowly, all the victims are released; all except for Mariano, who will not believe what he must do in order to survive. The long walk from where he is taken to the place in which he is held captive makes Mariano remember something his mind had kept locked away, an abuse he suffered as a child of which he had never spoken. Until now. Thus, he finds himself to be twice captured: once physically, and once emotionally.

THE GIPSY BRIDE / Inspector Elena Blanco has to raise every fold of the Gypsy Bride’s veil to get to the truth: who hated Susana so much, who hated her sister and her father? While working on the case she will have to deal with a dangerous murderer, a vengeance, the age-old religion and the revelation of some terrible facts about herself. “In Madrid there are not many murders committed”, deputy inspector Ángel Zárate’s old mentor in the police force used to say, “but when they happen, there is nothing the other cities can be envious of”, would add inspector Elena Blanco, the Head of the Case Analysis Brigade, a police department created for resolving the most complicated and most heinous crimes. Susana Macaya, a Gypsy girl, educated in a non-gypsy environment, disappears after her hen party. Nothing is known about her until two days later when her body turns up in the run-down Quinta de Vista Alegre park with its abandoned gardens in the district of Carabanchel. It might have been just another routine investigation, were it not for the fact that the victim was brutally tortured and that her sister Lara, also about to be married, also a young and beautiful Gypsy girl had been murdered in the same manner seven years before. Lara’s killer is serving a sentence in prison, so there are only two possibilities: it is either a copycat murder or an innocent person has been imprisoned. This is why the Head of Operations, inspector Rentero decides to take the case from young Zárate and give it to the experienced Elena Blanco. She is a peculiar character, a loner, a fan of grappa, of karaoke, of old Soviet cars and of romantic encounters in underground parking bays. A very special police officer who keeps working in the force because she must not forget that there is a case in her life she cannot close. To investigate implies getting to know people, revealing their secrets, their lack of consistency, their life. In the case of Lara and Susana it will be necessary to delve into the life of the Gypsies who have renounced their customs in order to integrate into the society as well as into the life of those who condemn such attitudes and do not forgive. It will also require acknowledging petty displays of racism they face every day…

Paraíso de nadie

Maria Negroni ha reunido, en un nuevo volumen, los papeles inéditos del Archivo Thénon que no fueron incluidos en los dos tomos de La morada imposible y les ha sumado un libro, desconocido hasta ahora, que pudo recuperar gracias a una pesquisa efectuada en las bibliotecas de los EEUU. Seguramente un acceso más completo al conjunto de esta obra permitirá una más amplia apreciación de la envergadum y complejidad del recorrido estético de esta autora indispensable. Maria Negroni has brought together, in a new volume, the unpublished papers from the Thénon Archive that were not included in the two volumes of La morada imposible and has added a book, hitherto unknown, that she was able to recover thanks to a search carried out in the libraries from the USA. Surely a more complete access to the whole of this work will allow a broader appreciation of the scope and complexity of the aesthetic path of this indispensable author.

PROGENY / A bold police procedural that delves into one of the major themes of our times: a reflection on motherhood, and with it, on family models and on still existing social demands imposed on women. A captivating thriller and a powerful way of telling a story that is much more than just the plot and the characters but it also deals with the issue of artificial fertilization and genetic manipulation. Seville in the grip of a heat wave. Whoever can, dashes for the beach. But not Camino Vargas, the unexpectedly-appointed and temporary head of the homicide group since the shooting that left inspector Arenas in a coma. And neither do the criminals. Someone has deliberately run over a woman and fled. This fact will become the focus of media attention when a disturbing piece of information is leaked out: the murderer left a pacifier in the mouth of the victim before escaping. All the clues point to the ex-partner, a psychological abuser who made her life impossible. The statistics are not good: there have already been fifty fatal attacks of gender-based violence this year. However, when the autopsy reveals that the victim was pregnant, things will no longer be so clear. And when other murders begin to happen following the same modus operandi, the entire city will be shaken to the core. This forceful and rather troublesome inspector will have to handle the toughest case of her career, helped only by the few members of her team that remain in the city. In an exercise of literary maturity, the author reaches a perfect balance between the subject and a gripping and absorbing thriller in which the big unknown generates high tension in the whole city: has Seville become a dangerous place for women? Who and why is committing such brutal murders?

If in Progenie the underlying theme was maternity and the still prevailing social impositions for women, in Especie the authoress puts the spotlight on the world of industrial production farms and on the way we treat animals. Do we have the right to torture them from the moment they are born just for the pleasure of eating them? Is this what the murderer wants to tell us? Inspector Camino and her team, working against time, go to slaughterhouses, farms and animal sanctuaries while the whole country is terrified by the crimes committed in the Andalusian capital. A fast-paced novel with twists and turns where nothing will be as it seems.
