Dirk Dobbrow, am 6. Dezember 1966 in Berlin geboren, schlug sich nach dem Abitur als Zeitungsbote, Altenpfleger und Radiosprecher durch und besuchte eine private Schauspielschule. Er arbeitete zwei Jahre lang als Schauspieler am Stadttheater Lüneburg, es folgten Engagements an verschiedenen Theatern in Berlin, u.a. der Vaganten Bühne und dem Schloßparktheater. Schließlich widmete er sich ganz dem Schreiben. Er lebt heute als Autor in Berlin und schreibt Theaterstücke und Prosa. 1995 erschien Diva, Dirk Dobbrows erstes Theaterstück, das am 2. März 1996 am Schauspielhaus Bochum in der Regie von Gil Mehmert uraufgeführt wurde. Halbwertzeiten veröffentlichte er 1996, das Stück wurde für den Heidelberger Stückemarkt nominiert. Late Night erschien 1998, 1999 Legoland, das am 28. Januar 2000 am Kleist Theater Frankfurt/Oder in der Regie von Michael Funke uraufgeführt wurde und für das Dirk Dobbrow den Kleist-Förderpreis für junge Dramatiker erhielt. Das Stück wurde außerdem zu den Mülheimer Theatertagen eingeladen. Hundemund kam am 21. Januar 2000 am Maxim Gorki Theater im Schiller Theater, Berlin, im Rahmen der Schillernacht der Autoren, unter der Regie von K. D. Schmidt zur Uraufführung. Dobbrows Theaterstück Alina westwärts (2001) wurde für den Stückemarkt des 38. Berliner Theatertreffens nominiert, es kommt am 13. Juni 2002 am Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern unter der Regie von Michael Funke zur Uraufführung. Dirk Dobbrow wurde dafür außerdem mit dem Else Lasker-Schüler-Stückepreis ausgezeichnet. Für das 2001 entstandene Stück Paradies erhielt er das erstmals gestiftete BHF-Bank Stipendium Frankfurter Positionen. Der Mann der Polizistin ist sein Prosadebüt.

Capoeira, an original Afro-Brazilian discipline, is not so easily defined due to its numerous facets, as a deadly martial art, an exotic dancing discipline, inspired by an ancient far-away culture. Nearly four hundred years of slave trade brought to Brazil an envyingly cultural heritage, composed of a continuous influx of different ethnic groups, which, concomitant with the different native, African and European regional expressions and its rich constant geopolitical changes, has produced a singular, colorful and vibrant multicultural and multiethnic society engaged in their new Brazilian identity. Capoeira became the result of Brazil’s own diasporic experience, a branch of a large tree which grew into a unique and complex social art that cannot be dissociated from its historical and anthropological perspectives.
