        Antonio and Mellida

        John Marston

        by David Bevington, W Gair, Richard Dutton, Alison Findlay, Helen Ostovich

        Antonio and Mellida was the first play by John Marston performed by the newly revived Paul's Company in 1599. Marston sought to display a variety of talents, comic, tragic, satiric and historical, advertising his own dramatic skills and the prowess of the choristers of Paul's. The play is based on incidents in the reigns of Sforza, Francesco, Galeazzo and Lodovico, who were Dukes of Milan in the late fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries. Marston displays a detailed knowledge of the dramatic works of Shakespeare, Seneca, Kyd and Nashe as well as the prose of Sidney, Erasmus, Montaigne, Florio and others. This edition relates the play to a wide variety of literary contexts. It also includes a comprehensive introduction, an analysis of staging, and full commentary. The text is based on a collation of all known copies of the 1602 Quarto and is presented in a thoroughly modernised format. ;

        Spanische Lyrik der Gegenwart

        by Javier Gómez-Montero, Petra Strien-Bourmer, Manfred Bös, Thomas Brovot, Ludger Damm, Julia Gramberg, Alexandra Ihmig, Martin Koppenfels, Susanne Lange, Franck Meyer, Theres Moser, Gerhard Poppenberg, Petra Strien-Bourmer, Javier Gómez-Montero

        Erst in den sechziger Jahren erholte sich die Lyrik in Spanien vom Schock des Bürgerkriegs und vom Druck der alles erstickenden Franco-Diktatur. Langsam, aber unüberhörbar erhoben sich die Stimmen junger Autoren, deren Gedichte mit kraftvollen Sprachbildern ästhetische Paradigmen und ethische Grundmuster für die Lyrik unserer Gegenwart entwerfen. Heute sind diese Stimmen unverwechselbar geworden; jede einzelne kann den Status eines Klassikers der Moderne beanspruchen. Ob mit leicht zugänglicher Alltags- und Gedankenlyrik oder mit hermetischen, auf den ersten Blick schwer erschließbaren Texten: Diese Lyriker erdichten den Standort für den Menschen aufs neue – in immer wieder überraschenden Wendungen.Die Anthologie versammelt ein Dutzend dieser poetischen Stimmen, herausragende Beispiele der spanischen Gegenwartslyrik, die selbstbewußt das Erbe der international bekannten Großen der ersten spanischen Moderne – Antonio Machado, Federico García Lorca, Luis Cernuda, Pedro Salinas – antreten: José Ángel Valente, Jaime Gil de Biedma, Leopoldo M. Panero, José Agustín Goytisolo, Carlos Barral, José Hierro, Pere Gimferrer, Ángel González, Juan-Eduardo Cirlot, Antonio Gamoneda, Ángel Crespo, Clara Janés.

        Das Collège de Sociologie

        1937–1939

        by Denis Hollier, Horst Brühmann, Irene Albers, Stephan Moebius

        Kaum eine intellektuelle Gruppierung des 20. Jahrhunderts hat eine vergleichbare Wirkung und Faszinationskraft entfaltet wie das Collège de sociologie, das 1937 von Georges Bataille zusammen mit Roger Caillois und Michel Leiris gegründet wurde. Den Mitgliedern des Collège geht es im Anschluß an die Religionssoziologie von Durkheim und Mauss um die Etablierung einer Soziologie des Sakralen, das aus seinen religionswissenschaftlichen und ethnologischen Bezügen gelöst und für eine allgemeine Wissenschaft moderner Gesellschaften fruchtbar gemacht werden soll. Einer sich rapide individualisierenden Gesellschaft, deren atomistischer und anomischer Zustand sie besonders anfällig für faschistische Propaganda macht, setzen die Collègiens die Schaffung frei wählbarer Gemeinschaften entgegen, die durch Erfahrungen der kollektiven Ekstase, von Festen und Mythen zusammengehalten werden. Die reich kommentierte Edition von Denis Hollier hat den Diskussionszusammenhang des Collège de sociologie erstmals erschlossen und zeitlich nachvollziehbar gemacht. Zahlreiche Texte sind nur in dieser Ausgabe zugänglich; nun liegt sie erstmals in vollständiger deutscher Übersetzung vor. Editorisch bearbeitet und mit einem Nachwort von Irene Albers und Stephan Moebius.

        Diario de un defensor de pibes chorros (Journal of a juvenile delinquent's defender)

        by Julian Axat

        This book chronicles Julián's journey to his role as a juvenile defender in the province of Buenos Aires, from which they sought to oust him through harassment and political trials. Others would follow the path he paved: those trained by him, officials and defenders who, witnessing his work, learned to commit to the adolescents and their heart-wrenching stories that he brought to light and presents to us again in these tales.

        Rose aus Asche

        Spanische und spanisch-amerikanische Gedichte 1900–1950

        by Erwin Walter Palm, Erwin Walter Palm, Hilde Domin

        Zwischen den beiden Weltkriegen stand die spanische Dichtung noch einmal in der vordersten Reihe der europäischen Lyrik. Deren wichtigste Vertreter, Juan Ramón Jiménez, Antonio Machado, Rafael Alberti, Jorge Guillén und Federico García Lorca, gehören inzwischen zu den Klassikern des 20.Jahrhunderts. Die Proben lateinamerikanischer Lyrik von Gabriela Mistral, César Vallejo, Jorge Carrera Andrade und anderen vermitteln ein Bild von der literarischen Eigenständigkeit eines Kontintents, der sich bewußt von europäischen Modellen löste, um zu sich selbst zu finden.

        Martha Gellhorn: The war writer in the field and in the text

        by Kate McLoughlin, Martin Hargreaves

        Martha Gellhorn was the doyenne of twentieth century war correspondence. Opinionated, honest and unafraid, she covered conflicts from the Spanish Civil War to Reagan's wars in Central America in the 1980s. Martha Gellhorn: the war writer in the field and in the text is the first critical study of her Second World War fiction and journalism. Often overlooked in accounts of war literature is the writer's precise position in relation to battle and his or her resultant standing in the text. Kate McLoughlin traces Gellhorn's daring attempts to access the war zone and her constructions of the woman war correspondent in her despatches, novels, short stories and play. Drawing on unpublished letters, close attention is given to Gellhorn's rivalry with Ernest Hemingway (the two were married from 1940 to 1945) over reaching the Normandy beaches on D-Day and its textual outcome in the pages of Collier's magazine. McLoughlin goes on to examine Gellhorn's increasingly negative portrayals of the glamorous female war reporter and to suggests why such disillusionment might have set in. ;

        All That We Don´t Know

        by María de Alva

        Four children have to deal with the killing of their father in violent, 1970's Northern Mexico. Grief does not stop because nobody in the family wants to talk about the murder for fear of disrupting family unity. The story is written from the perspective of four narrators. The first is a woman who tries to find the truth using her own recollection, photographs and a USB. A second narrator is a police detective who was the lead investigator of the killing and keeps a detailed file and realizes something doesn´t quite add up. A third narrator is a middle-aged woman, facing a cancer diagnosis and who, in the middle of treatment, starts remembering things about her father. The novel takes us deep into the dark wolrd of the 23 September Communist guerrilla in Mexico, weaving elements of historical fact and fiction, and trying desperately to answer questions about the need to for the truth.

        A Partir de Rien

        by Ron Adam

        A Partir de RienUn thriller apocalyptique par Ron Adam Tout comme dans les tragédies grecques, l’Amérique va droit à la collision inévitable avec l’ultime menace : la combinaison fatale de l’Islam fanatique avec les armes nucléaires et les ressources énergétiques les plus riches du monde. Le 11 septembre 2001, Osama Bin Laden a démontré au monde comment on pouvait aisément retourner les dollars américains et la technologie des Etats-Unis et les utiliser comme un boomerang frappant droit au cœur de l’Amérique. Il est à la fois facile et terrible d’imaginer ce qui peut arriver si un tel zèle fanatique réussit à s’équiper de la puissance monstrueuse des armes nucléaires.Un coup d’œil rapide à la carte montre que les Etats-Unis ont appris la leçon et que les guerres en Afghanistan et en Iraq doivent juste refermer le cercle autour de la menace véritable – l’Iran.A Partir de Rien vous entraîne dans le tourbillon qui balaie le monde, depuis une guerre locale dans le Golfe Persique, en passant par un coup d’état militaire en Russie - la nouvelle ancienne alliée de l’Iran – jusqu’à un véritable holocauste nucléaire.L'équipe d'un sous-marin américain, constituée d'hommes uniquement, qui sans le vouloir, a joué un rôle actif dans la destruction de l’humanité, découvre au lendemain de la catastrophe que c’est sur ses épaules qu’incombe d’accomplir la tâche opposée – recréer la race humaine – A Partir de Rien. Après neuf mois passés sous l’eau, ils vont émerger vers une île lointaine du Pacifique sur laquelle les conditions peuvent de nouveau supporter la vie. Equipés des technologies les plus sophistiquées, ils emportent avec eux deux douzaines d’ovaires fertilisés congelés, qui sont chacun destinés à devenir une nouvelle Eve, et qui, ensemble, constitueront les mères d’une nouvelle humanité.Cependant les « Adams » sont malheureusement trop nombreux sur cette île ! Plus d’une centaine d’hommes attendent impatiemment que les 24 petites filles grandissent pour mûrir et devenir des femmes, et le combat pour prendre contrôle de cette précieuse « ressource » est par conséquent inévitable.Ces hommes découvrent que la nature humaine ne peut être changée. Même après la guerre ultime qui a tout détruit, l’homme continuera à se servir de la force pure pour obtenir ce qu’il veut et pour résoudre les disputes.En dépit de sa trame pessimiste, le livre est essentiellement optimiste et est guidé par la foi dans la loi de l’histoire : il se peut que les bons doivent souffrir et payer un lourd tribut mais, à la fin du compte, ils gagneront.L’auteur : un pilote de chasse, officier naval et ingénieur supérieur de Hi-Tech. Ron Adam a mené une carrière militaire impressionnante, du service dans un sous-marin et un torpilleur de la marine israélienne en passant par l’aviation israélienne comme pilote de chasse, capitaine sur un porte-avions, instructeur de vol et officier du personnel de guerre électronique. Possédant un diplôme d’ingénieur en électronique, Adam a dirigé un programme de défense de 1,2 milliards de dollars et a également fondé trois entreprises start-up dans le high-tech. Aujourd’hui, Adam est ingénieur-conseil supérieur dans les industries aéronautiques et il partage son temps entre la technique de haut niveau et l’écriture de livres et de scénarios. Il est marié et a trois enfants.

        by Huang Xuran, Tang Sulan

        "The Classic of Mountains and Seas (Picture Version)" is a children's traditional cultural enlightenment book with a fresh perspective. Selected representative and interesting chapters in "The Classic of Mountains and Seas" were drawn into the book, which depicts a series of images in "The Classic of Mountains and Seas" such as water systems, mountains, vegetations, trees, mountain gods, sacred beasts, water monsters, etc. In this imaginative picture book, images are vivid and the story theme is ups and downs. The School Day Gifts

        China Story Picture Books

        by Xu Lu

        China Story Picture Books is the first set of children's picture books launched by the Bingxin Award Committee. This set of books covers the works of seven Bingxin Award-winning writers of different ages including children's literature masters and promising young writers. The illustrations are full of traditional Chinese cultural elements such as dragon lantern dance, paper cutting, oil paper umbrella, and bamboo. Powerful painters at home and abroad are invited to do illustrations, which brings interesting fusion and collision of Chinese and foreign cultures to the books. In addition to the original illustrations, the stories are more touching. Every child can harvest the courage and wisdom for growing up from these stories.   The series consists of 7 picture books: The Dragon Lantern, The Path of Golden Flowers, The Child in Three-Story Attic, The School Day Gifts, The Secret of Crossing, The Slope of Sisters.   The School Day Gifts tells the story of the growth of a young umbrella maker. After graduating from high school, the protagonist became an umbrella maker, but he had no courage to go back to the school celebration day. Daddy saw what was on his mind and secretly helped him prepare gifts for my teachers and classmates, which were dozens of old-fashioned oilpaper umbrellas made of golden bamboo bones and oilpaper. Eventually he proudly participated in the school day and recited the poet Ai Qing's The Umbrella.

        Journey in Trumplandia: The Rise of Populism in America

        by Tiberiu Dianu

        The book is a collection of essays about the transformation of America, which has turned from a united nation to one more divided than ever. Some pundits predict that, if things don’t change, another civil war could occur. Have we reached a point of no return? Hopefully, America is mature enough to learn from its mistakes and avoid further scars along its evolving history. "Trumplandia is a welcome addition toward understanding current events, Washington’s international policy, and the present American society; a society polarized and divided as it has not been since the Civil War.” NICHOLAS DIMA, Ph.D., Adjunct Professor and Research Associate, Nelson Institute, James Madison University, Virginia. "The book is fascinating. It provides background to, and insights into [the] current and past political history as well as offering a personal view... of the country and society. Presented in thematic form in chapters and sections, the insights offered provide a suggestive radiography...” Dr. DENNIS DELETANT, OBE, School of Foreign Service, Georgetown University, Washington DC. "There has been this backsliding in... what a truly functioning rule-of-law state is, that has proper separation of co-equal powers, which, if you don’t keep working on that, you backslide. And I am even worried about that here, in the United States right now, about backsliding.” OBIE MOORE, Esq., OLM Advisors LLC, Washington DC “Indeed, Trumplandia should be a welcome addition to any scholar, student or layman’s library, especially in its international edition. If anyone loses sleep over its challenging assertions, then it will have been well worth it.” ERNESTO MORALES HIZON, Ph.D. Candidate in American and Comparative Politics at Claremont Graduate University, Member, Integrated Bar of the Philippines ABOUT THE AUTHOR: TIBERIU DIANU has practiced law in Romania (as a corporate lawyer, judge, senior counselor at the Ministry of Justice, university professor and senior legal researcher), and in the United States (as a legal expert for the judiciary). He published several books and a host of articles in law, politics, and post-communist societies. Tiberiu currently lives and works in Washington, DC.
