        SKORZENY: Dancing with the Devil

        by Hugo N. Gerstl

Mussolini is deposed, imprisoned, and hidden.  1943: single commando leads gliders to the top of the highest peak in the Apennines to rescue the Duce.October 1944: Hungary’s Admiral Horthy is about to defect to the Soviets. Hitler’s man kidnaps Horthy’s son, and advises him it’s time to “retire” if he ever wants to see his son again .December 1944: The Battle of the Bulge. Hitler’s favorite soldier, using 2,000 stolen American Army uniforms, leads a group of English-speaking Germans behind enemy lines and wreaks havoc throughout the front. That same man helps former SS members get to South America; becomes Juan Péron’s security chief and Eva Péron’s secret lover; trains Arab forces and Yasser Arafat for the next Israeli war; sells arms to both sides of wars throughout Africa; and ultimately, as a Mossad agent, “takes out” the very group of nuclear scientists Egypt recruited to destroy Israel! The same man, Otto Skorzeny, did all these things and more. Identity or Not?

        by Jean-Pierre Wils (ed.)

        Questions of identity trigger controversial and highly emotional discussions in the political and social debate. The positions range from radically emancipatory perspectives to authoritarian and restorative efforts on the far right wing of politics. Liberal democracies are now opening up – slowly – as identity- and gender-sensitive forums. Opposite them are the 'new ethics' of illiberal democracies and totalitarian states that are aimed at ethnic homogeneity and gender uniformity. But that's not to say that there is unity in the liberal settings on the necessary degree of identity politics. Both language and gender politics are deeply controversial. Do we need an 'identity' and, if so, which one or how many? Can the identity debate be extended by means of other concepts?

        Angela Carter

        by Aidan Day

        This full scale study discusses Angela Carter's fiction in chronological order, and notes that although her themes are fairly consistent throughout her work, consistency of theme is not the same as repetition. The new angles and emphases that develop are partly from Carter's immersion in the changing intellectual debates of the times and, concurrently, arise from the reading she was doing at the different stages of her life, which stretched from the medieval through de Sade to Foucault. ;

        Nursery Practices in Oil Palm

        A Manual

        by Brian P Forster, Peter D. S. Caligari, Nur D Laksono, Umi Setiawati, Fazrin Nur, Miranti Rahmaningsih, Yassier Anwar, Heru Rusfiandi, Eben Haeser Sembiring, Brian P Forster, Avasarala Sreenivasa Subbarao, Hafni Zahara

        This is a hands-on, practical guide to general and specific practices in oil palm nurseries to produce healthy, vigorous and uniform plants ready for field planting. There are two nursery stages, a pre-nursery and a main nursery. The pre-nursery receives both germinated seeds and tissue culture produced plantlets (ramets) which are planted in small pots in a relatively small area in which shade and humidity can be controlled. Once seedlings and ramets are established they are transferred to the main nursery, potted-on and grown on to produce field-ready plants.

        CAP and the Regions

        Territorial Impact of Common Agricultural Policy

        by Edited by Mark Shucksmith, Kenneth Thomson, Deborah Roberts

        This book assesses the regional territorial impact of the EU's Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and Rural Development Policy (RDP), asking the question of how far these are compatible with objectives of territorial cohesion across the enlarged European Union. It considers both the incidence of CAP expenditure and producer subsidy equivalents across NUTS3 regions, and the impact of current CAP reforms, through detailed statistical analysis and case studies. It also assesses how far the CAP is consistent with the goals of European Union policy, as set out in the European Spatial Development Perspective. It concludes with proposals for policy reform and attempts to highlight good practice in rural development.

        Populism in Europe

        Lessons from Umberto Bossi's Northern League

        by Davide Vampa, Daniele Albertazzi

        Populism in Europe offers a detailed and systematic analysis of the ideology, electoral and governmental performances, organisational model, type of leadership and member activism of the Northern League under its founder, Umberto Bossi (1991-2012). Based on a wealth of original research, the book identifies the Northern League's consistent and coherent ideology, its strong leadership and its ability to create communities of loyal partisan activists as key ingredients of its success. Through their in-depth analysis, Albertazzi and Vampa show that the League has much to teach us about how populists can achieve durability and rootedness and how parties of all kinds can still benefit from a committed and dedicated membership today.
