Processes that Shape the Earth, Third Edition
by Sophia Chen and David M. Thompson, Ph.D.
On Earth, nothing is still. Mountains rise and fall. Tides ebb and flow. Even the continents themselves are on the move. Beneath the surface, a restless engine powers earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and the shifting of continents. Above ground, the sun causes the wind to howl, rain to pour, rivers to churn, and oceans to swell with waves. Processes That Shape the Earth, Third Edition surveys these forces and the ways they sculpt the planet. The modern theory of plate tectonics is introduced, along with other pertinent topics in physical geology. Several chapters add relevant historical context, presenting readers with fascinating discussions of Earth's origin, its history over billions of years, and the recent changes that have resulted from human activity.

Visions of empire
Patriotism, popular culture and the city, 1870–1939
by Andrew Thompson, Brad Beaven, John Mackenzie
The emergence of a vibrant imperial culture in British society from the 1890s both fascinated and appalled contemporaries. It has also consistently provoked controversy among historians. This book offers a ground-breaking perspective on how imperial culture was disseminated. It identifies the important synergies that grew between a new civic culture and the wider imperial project. Beaven shows that the ebb and flow of imperial enthusiasm was shaped through a fusion of local patriotism and a broader imperial identity. Imperial culture was neither generic nor unimportant but was instead multi-layered and recast to capture the concerns of a locality. The book draws on a rich seam of primary sources from three representative English cities. These case studies are considered against an extensive analysis of seminal and current historiography. This renders the book invaluable to those interested in the fields of imperialism, social and cultural history, popular culture, historical geography and urban history. ;

Dämonenräumdienst
Gedichte
by Marcel Beyer
Auf der Saftbühne wird etwas aufgeführt. Hildegard Knef steigt ins Auto. Rudolph Moshammer trägt seinen Yorkshire Terrier durch München. S. T. Coleridge macht einen Witz über Köln. Kunstwerke verschwinden. Etwas rüttelt am Fenster. Morgens, mittags, nachts. Sprich schneller.Niemand hier muß verstehen, was du sagst. Wer würde dir denn eine Knarre besorgen. Frag nicht, ob duwillkommen bist. Was in dirsingt, geht keinen Menschen etwas an.Die Buchstaben glotzen. Bleibe.

KNX/EIB Engineering Tool Software
Safe Installation and Changeover from ETS5 to ETS6
by Michael Körmer, Willi Meyer
Smart home solutions are in vogue, but require precise knowledge of the underlying hardware and software. Those who do not deal with ETS programming on a daily basis sometimes find it difficult. Instead of relying on memory and colleagues' knowledge for setup, this book helps as a step-by-step guide: the overall process of programming and commissioning KNX/EIB projects based on the current Engineering Tool Software (ETS) is covered. This enables you to follow all the necessary steps before, during and after processing with ETS5 and ETS6 "in one piece". The book takes into account the current state of the software based on ETS5 as well as ETS6. From the determination of requirements to the documentation, the necessary knowledge is conveyed. All actions with the discussed software tools are illustrated by screenshot, which ensures a good comprehensibility. For practical understanding, the complete project of a single-family house is also presented step-by-step and richly illustrated. This book will help you especially with the following questions: What are the basics of KNX hardware and software? What basic knowledge do I need specifically for ETS5 and ETS 6? What are the differences and similarities between the two KNX tools? How do I lead an extensive KNX project to success? (Practical example)

The Politics of Cultural Knowledge
by Wane, N.
The advent and implementation of European colonialism have disrupted innumerable epistemological geographies around the globe. Countless cultural ways of knowing and local educational practices have in some way been displaced and dislocated within the universalizing project of the Euro-Colonial Empire. This book revisits the colonial relations of culture and education, questions various embedded imperial procedures and extricates the strategic offerings of local ways of knowing which resisted colonial imposition. The contributors of this collection are concerned with the ways in which colonial education forms the governing edict for local peoples. In The Politics of Cultural Knowledge, the authors offer an alternative reading of conventional discussions of culture and what counts as knowledge concerning race, class, gender, sexuality, identity, and difference in the context of the Diaspora. In The Politics of Cultural Knowledge, Wane, Kempf and Simmons have put together a much-needed reader that could achieve the critical reconstructions for the timely re-voice-ing of anti-colonial and Indigenous knowledge systems that introspectively and deeply mediate the lives of people. It is a comprehensive, multi-locational, well-structured work that should represent an important milestone in harnessing the long-awaited inclusive epistemological platforms that must teach, empower and inspire those who seek different cultural ways of knowing. The Politics of Cultural Knowledge should immensely benefit students and researchers in the social sciences, education and those in cultural, and linguistic studies.

Spirituality, Education & Society
An Integrated Approach
by Wane, N. N.
Spirituality, education and society: An integrated approach argues the value of spirituality in education as a way to address the lived experiences and personal knowledge of students, with the goal of creating a more holistic, transformative educational process. This edited volume has a wide array of viewpoints which all point to the importance of spirituality in the authors’ personal lives, their communities and society at large. Spirituality is conceptualised as a base from which to challenge dominant forms of knowing, while in the process being able to center and engage with an important aspect of the student that has been missing from current evaluations – their spiritual selves.Within the diversity of this volume it becomes evident that spirituality cannot be confined to a singular definition and that educators must be willing to create spaces to foster spiritual growth and exploration if we are to break away from the commoditized, disempowering system that is so dominant today. This edited collection is a valuable resource for students, practitioners, educators and administrators who wish to engage in transformational schooling. Its multidisciplinary approach engages ideas around critical pedagogy, sociology of education, and inclusive schooling. There is an increasing need for exploring novel paradigms of studying education in the context of the dynamics that straddle social, economic and technological processes that have come to characterize the world in recent years. This book is a timely contribution in this respect as its focus transcends hitherto applied approaches that depend largely on western orientation. The book breaks new grounds in studying education and society that find significant relevance in societies that are marginalized by the dominant western understanding. The authors draw from the rich heritage of spirituality that is akin to the non-western social paradigms to develop a rigorous but creative concept of schooling. I am sure practitioners, researchers and students of education will find it a valuable source of practical and theoretical information that would widen their horizon of understanding of sociology of education. - Tom Mongare Ndege, PhD, Moi University, Kenya The editors have compiled a brilliant collection of essays. Each piece of scholarly work shows how spirituality is a paramount part of our everyday lives and is connected to teaching, learning, living and healing. This is a timely and most relevant work that is sure to spur critical dialogue and discussion. This collection shows that while the spirit may be wounded it can never be broken. - Erica Neeganagwedgin, PhD, University of Toronto

Relational Excitations and Proactive Silhouette Theory
by Francis Rink Donnelly
Definitive Arrangements as they Pertain to the Development of Error; Upper Limits and Lower Limits contained and considered synergistic to procure a viable structural bend are inherently defined. This sweeping value of one lowered limit to that of a higher-end limit is bound by (E—->100;E—>Infinity). It can not be said that this process is dimensionless, but as all is perceived in preliminary replications with the Thirteen growth types that they are loosely bound to radical extremes. This middle-in-series is a exploration of the M+ value. M+ value is one of seven variable factors that are great estimates of how bending occurs in a majority of species containing specified bending capacity. Highlighted by, an in depth analysis of growth parameters, each extenuating and providing visual conception and proof that energetics plays a large role in the undeniable relocation of a temporal and spatial arrangement. To begin with an excitation and end with the production of a proactive silhouette is discussed with magnitude and volition. Strength of the proof is verified as the document unfolds; ever ebbing its’ dynamic nature to that which is surrounded by the investigators role in production of such states.

The Minimum You Need to Know About Java on OpenVMS
by Roland Hughes
Up until this point, most Java programming books attempt to make the reader believe that Java is the way-of-the-future and that all other languages are soon to become obsolete. Not so with this book. The author presents Java with all of its warts while continually comparing it to C++ and sometimes C. He admits not being a fan of Java and assumes you are only interested in learning it because your superiors are forcing a Java project upon your OpenVMS system (this is probably more true than not).
