Fundamentals of Basal Stimulation® in Nursing

        The Basics

        by Christel Bienstein, Andreas Fröhlich

Basal stimulation supports people in critical life situations, whose communication and regulation skills are signifcantly limited or permanently impaired. Perception, communication, and movement skills are central to this concept. Basal stimulation is a form of holistic, bodyrelated communication for people with major limitations. The authors Bienstein and Fröhlich demonstrate how carers can address, enable, stimulate, touch and calm people through sensory provisions. They specifcally describe key elements of nursing with regard to breathing, bathing, rubs (ASE), full and partial washes, dressing, support, dental hygiene, mobilization, positioning, washing and help in swallowing.

The Maieutic Model for Nursing and Treatment

        Presentation and Documentation

        by Cora van der Kooij

In this successful introductory work, the author describes the principles, rationale, prospects for, and documentation of her maieutic method for nursing and care. The word “maieutics” is derived from the ancient Greek word for “midwife” and draws upon a method developed by Socrates. Through skillful questioning, it reveals the right answers and insights lying dormant in another person’s mind, although he or she was not conscious of them. Cora van der Kooij describes maieutics as midwifery for nursing professionalism.   Target Group: Practicing nurses, geriatric nurses, nursing educators

Robust health care systems are paramount for the health, security, and prosperity of people and countries as a whole. This book provides for the first time a chronicle of the struggle for, and eventual success of, universal health coverage (UHC) in Tanzania. Beginning with an introduction to primary health care in the country, from its historical foundations to the major milestones of implementation, this book then considers stewardship of this important aspect of health systems over time. Written in a way to allow the application of lessons learned to other countries' contexts, this book covers: - Policy and governance issues such as leadership, human resources, and financing of health systems; - Practical aspects of health system delivery, including supply chains, community care, new technologies, and the integration of services for particular population groups; - The impact and mitigation of global events on health systems, such as resilience and preparedness in the light of disease outbreaks or climate change, and social, commercial, and political influences. Concluding with a look to the future, forecasting the changes and new solutions needed to adapt to a changing world, this book is a valuable reference for policy makers, global health practitioners, health system managers, researchers, students, and all those with an interest in primary health care and reforms - both in Tanzania and beyond.

        Gesammelte Schriften in 19 Bänden

        Band 5: Was ist Soziologie?

        by Norbert Elias, Annette Treibel
