Richard Bletschacher, born in 1936, is a director, dramaturg, painter, and the author of many opera texts, plays, stories, and musicological studies. From 1982 to 1996 he was active as chief dramaturg at the Vienna State Opera. He lives and works in Vienna and Drosendorf an der Thaya (NÖ).
