Ready for Reading Success is a four-volume series of exercise books designed for beginners which aims to develop reading competence and improve reading skills. As 12-year basic education emphasizes the importance of interdisciplinary and real-life-based learning, this series is designed to meet those objectives. The book contains 50 articles that come in many different forms, including passages, poems, dialogues, advertisements, etc. Each text is composed of no more than 150 words, and is followed by five multiple-choice comprehension questions that help train readers’ acquisition ability and allow self-examination. The book is divided into four primary units, within which are subunits that focus on different skills. Topics in this book includes literature, food, plants, culture, and travel, to name but a few. With all its merits, the book serves as an incomparable tool that empowers readers to soar to success. Structure Unit 1: Reading Skills 1-1 Subject Matter / Main Idea 1-2 Supporting Details / Cause & Effect 1-3 Fact Or Opinion / Making Inferences 1-4 Review: Reading Skills This unit covers six key ideas to look for when reading an article. In this unit, readers will learn to recognize what a text is mainly about, understand how an author feels about a topic, make assumptions based on information, and observe how details can be used to support main ideas. Unit 2: Word Study Synonyms / Antonyms / Words In Context In this unit, you will practice identifying words with the same or opposite meanings, and guessing the meanings of words from their context. These skills will help you understand new vocabulary and build vocabulary on your own in the future. Unit 3: Study Strategies 3-1 Visual Materials 3-2 Reference Sources Visual material like charts and graphs, and reference sources like indexes and dictionaries, all provide important information. What’s more, they help you understand complicated information more quickly than you can by reading. In this unit, you will learn to use them to gather information. Unit 4: Final Review 4-1 Review: Reading Skills 4-2 Review: Word Study 4-3 Review: Visual Material 4-4 Review: Reference Sources In this unit, you will review what you have learned. From these comprehensive questions, you can examine how well you have absorbed the ideas and material in this book.

Author Biography
Owain Mckimm
Owain Mckimm is a University of Cambridge graduate who has been working in Taiwan since 2009. He has taught English to learners of all ages and levels, and is also a freelance writer. He has written for numerous publications in Taiwan, including travel and culture magazines, English teaching magazines, books, and webzines.
Zachary Fillingham
A Canadian by birth, Zachary Fillingham holds a BA in International Relations from York University in Toronto and an MA in Chinese Studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies in London, UK. His guiding principle in life is a passion for learning, and this trait led him to Taiwan where he worked as an English teacher and began writing and editing textbooks for ESL students. Apart from his extensive experience as a freelance writer and translator, Zachary has also worked as the Managing Editor for a politics website and a consultant for one of the world’s largest finance companies.
Laura Phelps
Laura Phelps is a teacher, trainer and writer from the UK. After five years teaching English in London, she moved to Asia in 2009 and has lived there ever since. To date she has worked in four different countries (Sri Lanka, China, Malaysia and Georgia). She has taught children, teenagers and adults from beginner to advanced level, and has designed and delivered specialist courses including writing skills workshops for the BBC. Laura has also trained and mentored in-service teachers and worked as an academic manager.
Rob Webb
Rob Webb has been working as an English language teacher in Taiwan for over fourteen years. He specializes in teaching children from the ages of seven to thirteen years of age. He has written books specifically for Taiwanese learners and their teachers ranging from grammar, phonics and writing, to subject based books on geography, history and science. These books cover the range of English ability from complete beginner up to very advanced. He has also worked with published authors in the UK, copyediting their work for content and grammar.
Richard Luhrs
Born and raised in and around New York City, Richard Luhrs graduated from the State University of New York in 1988 with a BA in English composition and philosophy. After brief periods working as a permissions editor at Random House Publishers in New York and a writer and editor at First Tuesday Publications in Riverside, California, he joined the Peace Corps in 1992 and began both his EFL teaching career and life as an expatriate in rural Thailand. Over the past two decades, he has lived and taught in Japan, South Korea, China, Taiwan, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Myanmar and Laos. He has written material for National Taiwan University’s Language Teaching and Testing Program as well as several small scholastic publishing houses in Taiwan.
