Author Biography

Chuin TUNG（1900—1983）

Chuin Tung is the first generation of modern architect and architectural educator in China. After graduating from Tsinghua University in 1925, he studied in the Department of Architecture at the University of Pennsylvania. In 1928, he obtained a master's degree in architecture. After going to Europe to study architecture in 1930, he returned to China. He first taught at the Department of Architecture of Northeastern University in Shenyang, and then went to Shanghai to practice architecture. From 1944, he successively served as a professor in the Department of Architecture of the Central University of Technology in Chongqing and Nanjing. After the adjustment of the institutions in 1952, he continued to serve as a professor in the Department of Architecture at Nanjing Institute of Technology until his death. Chuin Tunghas long been committed to the theoretical study of architecture and gardening and has made pioneering contributions. He has been studying for a few decades, working hard, studying hard, studying the history of architecture in the East and West, the development of modern architecture and the study of various genre architectural theories. He is a master and model of the construction field in China.

童寯（1900—1983年），是我国现代第一代建筑学家、建筑师、建筑教育家。1925年清华学校毕业后，留学美国宾夕法尼亚大学建筑系，1928年获建筑学专业硕士学位，1930年赴欧洲考察建筑后回国。先在沈阳东北大学建筑系任教，随后前往上海从事建筑创作实践，1944年起先后在重庆和南京兼任中央大学工学院建筑系教授，并于1952年院校调整后在南京工学院继续担任建筑系教授，直至逝世。童寯长期致力于建筑及园林理论研究，做出了具有开创性的贡献。他数十年如一日，博览群书，勤奋治学，致力于东西方各国建筑历史、近现代建筑发展和各流派建筑理论的研究，是我国建筑界的一代宗师与楷模。
