        Sad Little Autumn

        by Mait Vaik

Mait Vaik, who in addition to being a celebrated musician and the author of countless songs has stood out for his short prose, has written a curiously captivating book with Sad Little Autumn. The work is meticulously accurate (including his expert descriptions of various states of intoxication and the hangovers which follow) and conjures images of apathetic, angst-provoking emptiness. The author tasked himself with conveying sharply distressing emotions such as despair, hopelessness, ineluctability, and resignation. His male characters – fathers and sons; two middle-aged and two young – all find themselves in rather unenviable situations. One father is diagnosed with cancer; the other has been wading through the mires of alcoholism for years and finally reaches a point where he has given up seeking the way out. One son is a “functioning addict”; the other has been pushed into violent obsession by an ill-fated romance. As such, Sad Little Autumn presents us with a brilliantly written quagmire; one both mental and physical. It is accompanied by the bleakness of dense Soviet apartment blocks (familiar from Mati Unt’s Estonian literary classic, The Autumn Ball) and the removed carelessness of superficially cozier new housing estates. Vaik paints these environments in a seemingly casual but still precise and enjoyable style, just as he does the weather – mostly gray Estonian autumn days in which daylight is in steady decline. The men go about their depressing lives with defeated thoughts crowding their heads. Whenever they do communicate – to women, let’s say – then their attitudes are by and large irritable, almost or entirely unwilling to let conversation lead to a stillborn solution. Vaik’s purposeful cacophony of viewpoints requires the reader to stay on their toes if they want to keep track of whose head the author has jumped into now and whose story is being told. Nevertheless, as the author himself declares at the end, there is still happiness to be found in these characters penned by Estonia’s Houellebecq – or at least they do earn unexpected redemption in this life.

        A Tale of Violence

        by Pedro Riera

Gabriel and Toni are close friends and have kept no secrets from each other since they were little. However, once they get to high school their friendship starts falling apart... Is violence fair when it?s used to impose justice? Much to Toni's dismay, Gabriel thinks so and is willing to go far to prove it.   A guy in a hoodie came out of nowhere and threw a petrol bomb. For a while, the world stood still. Everyone held their breath and stayed silent. The device seemed to fly over our heads in slow motion, and once it hit one of the excavators, it was as if someone had hit the fast forward button. The ensuing ball of fire opened the floodgates of hell. In the middle of a deafening roar, the riot police fiercely charged towards us, while they faced a rain of sticks and stones.

LAS MUJERES ESCRITORAS EN LA HISTORIA DE LA LITERATURA ESPAÑOLA.

by MONTEJO GURRUCHAGA, Lucía; et al.

by Miguel Peñarrocha / Juan Alberto Fernández / David Peñarrocha

This book is an eminently clinical guide that has been created from the knowledge and experience of years in the authors' profession and a highly qualified multidisciplinary team. Atlas of zygomatic implants, offers the reader a protocol necessary to know the anatomy, diagnosis, classification, treatment plans, anesthetic and surgical techniques, such as regenerations for the placement of zygomatic implants. Current digital techniques in oral surgery and implantology have placed us in a new technological scenario, and this has also reached zygomatic implants. In a large maxillary atrophy we can place zygomatic implants and make immediate loading, something that, in extreme atrophies, without zygomatic implants is practically unthinkable. It is true that zygomatic implants are only indicated in a small number of patients, those with extreme maxillary atrophies, among all those treated with dental implants. Zygomatics were introduced to the scientific world by Brånemark in 1998, and since then changes have been made, both in the implants and in the procedure, which have led to a considerable decrease in their complications, in the short and long term. Two important figures in implantology collaborated with him in Spain: Carlos Aparicio Magallón, who has contributed greatly to the scientific development of zygomatic implants with numerous bibliographical contributions and a book, and Joan Pi Urgell, who for many years worked and learned directly with Brånemark . They taught us, formed a school in Spain, and got many other professionals in our country to be grateful for their contributions to Spanish implantology. It is important that readers who approach this topic know that it is a difficult technique, not without serious complications, and that it should always be performed by an experienced surgeon. It is a procedure reserved for professionals with extensive surgical experience and not carrying out the proper training, with a teacher to guide you, can pose serious problems for the dentist and the patient. Therefore, the first requirement to use zygomatic implants is humility: we must recognize our limitations and train properly before launching into complex treatment like this. To finish we want to say to those who read this book that we have written it with the idea that it helps professionals to better understand this technique and to know when they can apply it to their patients. Zygomatic implant surgery is a delicate procedure and not without complications, which should only be performed when one has learned from the hand of a teacher and as long as one has sufficient training and surgical experience to do so.
