Developing the Potential of Children with Special Needs
A Skill-based Perspective on Early Childhood Movement Development
by Jeremy Krauss
Jeremy Krauss, one of the last students of Mosché Feldenkrais, has been practicing the Feldenkrais Method for over 40 years and has developed the Jeremy Krauss Approach (JKA) during the past 15 years in his work with children with special needs. This interprofessional approach can provide skill-based support for children with a variety of developmental delays. Krauss looks back on treatment successes with atypically developed individuals whose difficulties are located in the neurological, psychological, or socioemotional domain. Using numerous case studies, Krauss reflects on his experiences, which are connectable to topics such as motor learning, neuroplasticity and developmental psychology. Didactically, JKA is based on close observation of movement sequences and individual movement patterns. The focus is on variations in the dynamic transition from one position to another and the associated individual developmental steps.

Development, architecture, and the formation of heritage in late twentieth-century Iran
A vital past
by Ali Mozaffari, Nigel Westbrook
This book analyses the use of the past and the production of heritage through architectural design in the developmental context of Iran, a country that has endured radical cultural and political shifts in the past five decades. Offering a trans-disciplinary approach toward complex relationship between architecture, development, and heritage, Mozaffari and Westbrook suggest that transformations in developmental contexts like Iran must be seen in relation to global political and historical exchanges, as well as the specificities of localities. The premise of the book is that development has been a globalizing project that originated in the West. Transposed into other contexts, this project instigates a renewed historical consciousness and imagination of the past. The authors explore the rise of this consciousness in architecture, examining the theoretical context to the debates, international exchanges made in architectural congresses in the 1970s, the use of housing as the vehicle for everyday heritage, and forms of symbolic public architecture that reflect monumental time.

My Child and I
by Thorsten Macha, Franz Petermann
How is my child developing? Where can I turn for guidance? How can I stimulate my child’s development? Do I actually need to stimulate it? As a parent, what is my role in promoting development? And cares what it’s like for ME? “My Cild and I” addresses parents’ elementary questions on parenthood and the development of their child. It provides a clear summary of what can be expected from a child, what one can hope for, and what the child needs to be protected from. The parents themselves are not forgotten. Parenting young children is a stressful task: the book therefore contains basic recommendations that show how parents can contribute to their child’s development and where the boundaries of appropriate developmental encouragement lie. It also describes the challenges of parenthood and how parents can avoid becoming overwhelmed. Numerous tips help the reader identify and cope with the developmental risks and crises faced by both children and parents. Target Group: Parents of children between the ages of 0 and 6.

Growth of the Pig
by Edited by Gilbert R Hollis
Growth and development are obvious limiting factors in animal production. This book reviews our current knowledge of the growth and development of the pig. It covers basic aspects of developmental processes and environmental influences and their application to pig production. It describes new approaches to our understanding of biological mechanisms, that will permit producers to increase protein while decreasing fat in food products, and improve control of muscling, growth and muscle partitioning. The potential for genetic improvement as a result of mapping the pig genome is also described. The book is based on papers presented by leading research workers at the Pork Industry Conference on Swine Growth held in November 1992.

Pluriversal sovereignty and the state
Imperial encounters in Sri Lanka
by Ajay Parasram
Presenting a case study of British colonial rule and its aftermath in Sri Lanka, this book explores the collision of competing ontologies in the making of the modern state system. It develops a decolonial theoretical framework informed by the idea of a 'pluriverse' to reveal the empirical and imperial avenues through which the idea of the modern/colonial state became normalised in Ceylon. The book contributes to three areas of scholarly discussion: the politics of ontology as related to sovereignty, postcolonial and decolonial international relations, and globalisation through the colonial encounter. It argues that in order to understand contemporary postcolonial crises rooted in territorial conflicts, we must first understand the historical and conceptual processes that depoliticised and universalised the norm of 'total territorial rule' rather than treating the modern state as a territorial and developmental inevitability.

Genetics of Cattle
by Edited by Dorian J Garrick, Anatoly Ruvinsky
Since the time of domestication more than 10,000 years ago, cattle have played an increasingly crucial role in the development of human civilizations. Covering a vast array of questions, this book reviews major topics from molecular and developmental genetics, disease resistance and immunogenetics to genetic improvement of dairy and beef breeds, addressing all current problems in the field. This second edition includes a new team of authors and completely new chapters on the genetics of fat production, nutrition, feed intake and efficiency, growth and body composition. Fully updated throughout, it provides a valuable resource on cattle genetics for researchers, breeders, veterinarians and postgraduate students.
