Pinter & Martin is an independent publishing company based in London. Most of our books are distributed worldwide. We publish authors who challenge the status quo. We specialise in pregnancy, birth & parenting, health & nutrition, psychology and yoga. Pinter & Martin was founded on May 9th, 1997 by the writer and film-maker Martin Wagner and childbirth educator Maria Pinter, when we realised that Stanley Milgram's extraordinary book Obedience to Authority was out of print in the UK. Some milestones were the publication of Childbirth without Fear in 2004, which started our ever-growing pregnancy, birth & parenting list; Irrationality in 2007, which was our first genuine bestseller; and the publication of The Politics of Breastfeeding in 2009, followed by our first book for La Leche League International, The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding in 2010. In 2015 Pinter & Martin acquired the yoga publisher YogaWords, which was originally a joint venture by Paul Walker (1961-2016) of YogaMatters and Martin Wagner. In April 2016 Pinter & Martin opened effraspace a multi-purpose venue dedicated to pregnancy, birth & parenting education. In 2017 we published the bestselling The Positive Birth Book and Manhood, followed by Womanhood in 2019. We continue to publish books which are close to our hearts. Jill Marshall Books
Jill Marshall is the author of the popular middle-grade series about Sensational Spylet, Jane Blonde, and many other titles and series for tweens, teens, YA and adult. Jill’s books have been published by Macmillan Children’s Books, Penguin and Hachette, in 22 countries, 11 languages and paperback, ebook and audio formats. Jane Blonde has been optioned for film and TV, with significant film interest in other Jill Marshall titles. Jill has also been an editor and manuscript assessor for trade publishers and societies, a creative writing teacher for over 1000 clients, and works in corporate communications. During lockdown in 2020, and with all rights for all titles successfully re-acquired, Marshall fulfilled two long-term ambitions. The first – to create an independent publishing house of her own titles, rebranded and re-imagined for a digital world. The second – to pull together Jane Blonde and three other ‘superhero’ characters, all with their own origin series, into an ensemble series, S*W*A*G*G (swaggbooks.com). The third ambition was one that she couldn’t have foreseen: the wish to provide quality fiction for tween readers and upwards, in readily accessible digital formats and for free, in a world ravaged by a global pandemic. In May 2020, Jill Marshall Books was born, and all three ambitions met. JMB has gathered momentum and fandom during those months, and it’s now time to partner with like-minded book people – innovative, passionate, caring – to extend the reach of JMB titles across formats, locations and media. Bernd Liske
Bernd Liske, born in 1956, studied mathematics in Chemnitz and is the owner of Liske information management systems. From its founding in 1998 until May 2015, Bernd Liske was a member of the main board of BITKOM, where he worked in the defense, education and knowledge management working groups. In the course of his efforts to deal with the revelations of Edward Snowden in the NSA affair, he was expelled from BITKOM in 2015. From 1998 to 2003 he was a member of the board of the Association of Organizations and Information Systems (VOI). Bernd Liske has been dealing with socio-political issues for many years. In his analyzes and concepts, he deals with social, political and economic problems in our society in order to make contributions to maintaining Germany as a business location. His book “PRISM A Lesson for our Democracy”, published in September, grew out of this. The diversity of the topics he deals with as well as the systemic principles used for their treatment can be followed on his homepage at and on his TWITTER channels @BerndLiske, @LiskeAphorismen and @LiskeZitate. He now regards his aphorisms as an open source operating system for the analysis and design of social processes and has been using them successfully for years.
