Launched in 2014, Magellan is a non-corporate publisher for children’s and YA literature based in Bamberg, Germany. Our aim is to produce a new, innovative, and irresistible style of book and games that is contentually, optically, and haptically set apart from the mainstream. We offer challenging texts and don’t shy away from serious topics. Our authors and illustrators tell stories grounded in reality with quirky humour, extraordinary illustrations, exceptional characters, and sometimes a dash of fantasy in order to distinguish our style from the norm. Furthermore, we are celebrating the printed book. Therefore, we focus on environmental friendliness and sustainability in our production process with special regard to the choice of paper, colours, adhesives, and varnishes. To keep our carbon footprint as small as possible, we mainly produce in Germany - only in exceptional cases in neighbouring European countries. To make all of this happen, a team of twenty busy bees is working with great pleasure and motivation. Why? Founded in 2019, Magink Publishing House has gathered an international team of authors and illustrators around their name and with a set of 12 titles in English, most if which are translated to German already and with a total of 20-25 by the end of 2020 we look back to a good start and are looking for agencies on FBM20 to increase our reach. All of our titles tackle the challenges children see themselves confronted with in our day and age. The issues addressed reach from self reliance, creative training, digitalisation are depicted with incandescently playful pictures, a bulk of detail hinting at the structures of the adult world and a philosophical component for yound and old to ponder on together. Et voilá! The magic ink offers a delightful and educative read across our cultural and political borders.

Prior to forming my consulting firm, I was Vice President, Director, Global Rights, with Wiley Inc. and before Wiley, I worked in a variety of publisher positions with responsibility for managing editorial, creative and marketing teams, in addition to rights. From Random House/Fodor’s Travel to Hyperion/Disney, to Farrar, Straus & Giroux, my experience enabled me to work on print and digital deals for a wide range of authors with a broad spectrum of global companies. I am also the head of the Rights Committee for the Book Industry Study Group, where we focus on helping to identify and solve problems within the Rights area of publishing.
