View Rights PortalIn How to be multiple, Helena de Bres - a twin herself - argues that twinhood is a unique lens for examining our place in the world and how we relate to other people. The way we think about twins offers remarkable insights into some of the deepest questions of our existence, from what is a person? to how should we treat one another? Deftly weaving together literary and cultural history, philosophical enquiry and personal experience, de Bres examines such thorny issues as binary thinking, objectification, romantic love and friendship, revealing the limits of our individualistic perspectives. In this illuminating, entertaining book, wittily illustrated by her twin sister, de Bres ultimately suggests that to consider twinhood is to imagine the possibility of a more interconnected, capacious human future.

Mike Carmel The result of an illicit tempestuous affair between a young psychology student and her married lecturer in 1979, twin brothers John and Yoni are involuntarily separated during their first month of life and raised in different adopting families. John grows up in Liverpool, England, in the Roman Catholic faith. Yoni grows up in Ra'anana, Israel, in the Jewish faith. At age 21, they meet up for the first time. Both are devout believers, each in his own religious conviction, and an interesting process of mutual discovery follows as their diverse cultural paths merge. What follows is a captivating, stimulating, inquisitive, amusing, and occasionally conflicting story, which often verges on the bizarre. Then, one of them tragically ends his life as a victim of a suicide bombing, and the other twin is left to endure the harsh process of reinterpreting his personal identity, once again alone in the world. Mike Carmel was born in 1956 in Liverpool, and studied economics at Liverpool University and at Brunel University in London. Although the author had an Anglican upbringing, in 1980 he decided to convert to Judaism. He consequently maintains a deep respect for both religions. Working in the hi-tech sector, Mike has been living in Israel for the past 25 years. He served in the Israel Defense Forces as a medic, and has also worked in several educational capacities in both countries. Mike married his Israeli wife in 1981, and they have 3 children. His daughter, to whom the book has been dedicated, was seriously injured her army service by a suicide bomber in 2003.

Many books have been written about mate—its properties, benefits, history, and ritual. Al borde de la boca, however, intuits what none of those books consider: the firsthand experience of drinking mate. It is an experience of both body and mind, better evoked through literature than through scientific vocabulary. Sensitive and precise, this essay captures that experience and puts it into words without ever exhausting its private, personal dimension.
Robust health care systems are paramount for the health, security, and prosperity of people and countries as a whole. This book provides for the first time a chronicle of the struggle for, and eventual success of, universal health coverage (UHC) in Tanzania. Beginning with an introduction to primary health care in the country, from its historical foundations to the major milestones of implementation, this book then considers stewardship of this important aspect of health systems over time. Written in a way to allow the application of lessons learned to other countries' contexts, this book covers: - Policy and governance issues such as leadership, human resources, and financing of health systems; - Practical aspects of health system delivery, including supply chains, community care, new technologies, and the integration of services for particular population groups; - The impact and mitigation of global events on health systems, such as resilience and preparedness in the light of disease outbreaks or climate change, and social, commercial, and political influences. Concluding with a look to the future, forecasting the changes and new solutions needed to adapt to a changing world, this book is a valuable reference for policy makers, global health practitioners, health system managers, researchers, students, and all those with an interest in primary health care and reforms - both in Tanzania and beyond.
