Kruse, 1944 in Dingden bei Bocholt (heute Hamminkeln) geboren, ist seit 1975 Direktor des Heinrich-Heine-Instituts in Düsseldorf; 1986 wurde er zum Honorarprofessor an der Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf ernannt.
