        Neue Totentänze

        Holzstiche von Karl-Georg Hirsch

by Herbert Kästner, Volker Braun, Peter Gosse, Kerstin Hensel, Richard Pietraß, Hubert Schirneck, Kathrin Schmidt

      • Memento mori

        by Tiitu Takalo

An autobiographical graphic novel about life, art, the search of happiness, and surviving a cerebral hemorrhage at the age of 38.   In Memento mori, Tiitu Takalo, one of the greatest graphic novelists from Finland, describes her sudden and unexpected cerebral hemorrhage and the long process of recovery. It is a dramatic story about a life turned upside down overnight: a ruptured cerebral aneurysm, the days spent in an intensive care unit, and the long road to recovery which leads the artist to reflect on her current and past life.   Far more than a story of survival, Memento Mori is a philosophical and psychological journey told with exceptional honesty and compassion. It is a sublime graphic novel from a master of the medium and, ultimately, a celebration of life.

Remembering death daily helps us manage the chaos of this world, work towards an earthly holiness in view of the next life, and grow closer to God. It’s a means of perfecting your character by cultivating detachment and considering the soul’s immortality.

        by Mori, Kyoko

A family tale for new readers, from a New York Times Notable author in her stride. A young girl leaves Tokyo with her mother in 1979, carrying her pink suitcase to a new home, a new father and sister, on a dairy farm in Wisconsin. Thirty-three years later, her mother's belongings are found packed into boxes, her furniture draped in white sheets. Without so much as a note, she has left the two sisters connected by history, by some idea of family, to look for her. What happens when people lose their way home? Like a little barn cat, they grab onto a second family. . . and start again.
