      A terribly rowdy book

      Terribly funny horrors!

      by Vitalii Kyrychenko, Yurii Nikitinskyi

«A Terribly Rowdy Book» is totally unusual. It is written to be terribly rowdy, ironic, absurd, horrible, frightful and funny at the same time. The title is made as a parody of horror, slasher and mystery stories. The authors’ inspiration comes from scary-like nursery rhymes, Absurdist humor of Daniil Kharms as well as Scary Movie. If you are afraid to smile at scary things and forgot the times when you were kids, don’t read it at all. But if you happened to have bought this title, read it either under your blanket, in the bathroom or in the blackest corner. And in no case should you give it to your kids because you are good parents and not some we-don’t-know-who.

Bridges Instead of Walls, or What Unites Ukrainians?

      by Tetiana Teren

In this collection of essays, twenty Ukrainian intellectuals reflect on the phenomenon of social bridges and walls. Why do they both exist? Do bridges always bring understanding? Or do they perhaps sometimes allow crossing boundaries? Do walls necessarily separate? Or do they occasionally protect? With whom and how should we build bridges, and from whom shall we isolate by walls? The result of the media project of the Ukrainian branch of the International PEN Club, published in the New Time publication, is now under one cover. On the pages of the book, you will find essays by the following authors: Kateryna Kalytko, Kateryna Botanova, Vakhtang Kebuladze, Zoya Kazanzhy, Ostap Slyvinskyi, Olena Stiazhkina, Larysa Denysenko, Myroslava Barchuk, Viktoriya Amelina, Vitaliy Ponomariov, Vasyl Makhno, Volodymyr Rafeenko, Mykola Riabchuk, Volodymyr Yermolenko, Svitlana Pyrkalo, Borys Gudziak, Ihor Isichenko, Halyna Vdovychenko, Pavlo Kazarin, Vitaliy Portnykov. BIGGER THAN THE UNIVERSE

      by Vitaliy Buhara

A little girl called Alice lives in a large world with so many different things: big and small. Here is a kitten; it is small. Compared to it, Alice is big. But if we look at her dad, we see that he is the one who's big, while Alice is small. The girl and her dad often go to the zoo, where an elephant lives. Now that is one large creature! Although...how come that the same thing can be big and small at the same time? Is there anything that can be called the largest? Dad told Alice that the Universe is so big that it has neither a beginning nor an end. But the girl knows for sure: there is another immensely large thing: her mother's love. Maybe it's even bigger than the Universe. Alice reflects on this and invites the readers to think about it, too.

Kirill Protsenko is an artist who—quite easily and eloquently—fulfilled himself across different art fields, as it happens only with deep and educated people, whose inner workings, analysis, and artistic gestures are often perceived as effortless by others. Inasmuch as the result is optimal, harmonious, and easy, like a butterfly’s wingbeat. As if it wasn’t worth the effort.
