Mitten in den Dreharbeiten bricht der Titelheld am Morgen nach der Liebesnacht mit einer jungen Frau vor dem Pantheon tot zusammen. Erzählt wird in Rückblenden – von der Kindheit des Jungen mit dem exotischen Namen im Stuttgarter Vorort Degerloch, vom Tod des Bruders, vom Leben in Rom. Schließlich ist aus dem Außenseiter der große Filmproduzent Cassini-Stahl geworden, der sein bisher größtes Projekt verwirklicht und dabei selbst in die Rolle des Jud Süß schlüpfen muß. Montgomery ist ein Roman über den Ausbruch aus spießiger Enge, die Suche nach einer anderen Wahrheit und die Doppelbödigkeit der Dinge. Vor dem glitzernden Hintergrund der römischen Cinecittà dringt der Filmproduzent Montgomery Cassini-Stahl in die Tiefen deutscher Vergangenheit ein und wird mit den Schlüsselerlebnissen des eigenen Lebens konfrontiert.

Wahrlich keine einfache Aufgabe für die Tochter einer armen Bauernfamilie im England der 50er Jahre. 30 Jahre dauerte es, bis Mary sein darf, der sie ist. Martin. Es gibt nur wenige, die sie begleiten, der Großvater, ihre geliebte Lehrerin. Die Reise verändert Mary, aber auch ihre Familie und die Beziehungen untereinander von Grund auf. Ein langer, schmerzhafter und harter Weg bis zu dem Tag, an dem – 1980 – Post in Nashville, Kentucky eintrifft: »Lieber Martin, bitte verzeih mir. Ich hoffe sehr, dass Du es kannst. This book traces the career of Roy Ward Baker, one of the great survivors of the British film and television industry. He directed the landmark British film Morning Departure (1949), worked at Twentieth Century Fox in Hollywood in the early 1950s where he directed Marilyn Monroe's 'breakthrough' film (Don't Bother to Knock), and followed this with a succession of fine films for Rank, culminating in the best version of the Titanic disaster, A Night to Remember in 1958. Yet within three years he was unable to secure a job in the British film industry and he moved to television series such as The Avengers, The Saint and Minder. Later Baker re-emerged as a major director of science-fiction (Quatermass and the Pit) and horror films (Asylum). Geoff Mayer provides an industrial and aesthetic context in which to understand the interrelationship between a skilled classical director and the transformation of the British film industry in the 1950s. ;

In 2008, Manchester decided to embark on a counter-cyclical project, much as the city fathers had done in the last great recession, and invest significantly in two civic buildings, two buildings that were cornerstones of the making of the first modern industrialised city: Manchester Town Hall Extension and Manchester Central Library. Early on in this major redevelopment project, artists Dan Dubowitz and Alan Ward were given privileged and open access to witness this transformational period in the life of these two iconic buildings. Through large-format photographs and interviews taken and conducted over a period of eighteen months, they captured the moment when the city's citizens and workers had been locked out and the spaces were being stripped bare; revealing both a glimpse of what they had been and what they might become. The artwork provides insights on the reciprocal relationship between people and place, and reveals how the refurbishment of a building can go far beyond physical refurbishment, questioning the relationships between a city, its citizens and place.
