The Mahabharata, the well known Indian epic, describes the power struggle between the Pandavas and the Kauravas. It is replete with stories of warriors of which Karna is one. He was born to Kunti, the mother of the Pandavas before her marriage. Scared of the stigma, she abandoned the new born who was brought up by a person whose standing in the social hierarchy was low. Karna was thus looked down upon and became a victim of circumstances. He failed to get education or enter a matrimonial alliance the way the children of the noble people did. He became a friend of Duryodhana, the prince of the Kauravas. However, when the battle for supremacy broke out between the two families, in spite of his valour, skill in archery, and deep knowledge of warfare, Karna was kept out of it due to his family status. He took over as the commander of the Kauravas when the force was depleted. He met his end without achieving neither victory for the Kauravas or fulfilling his personal desire of defeating Arjun, his arch enemy among the Pandavas. Mrityanjaya is about the brave and generous Karna who fought against his misfortunes throughout his life. He never got his due. His is an example of how misjudgment can render all the finer qualities of an individual futile.

Animal husbandry is strongly influenced by weather and climate. Climate change/variability imposes multiple stresses in animals and thus vital to understand the impact of environmental stress on livestock production and reproduction. Among the environmental variables affecting livestock, heat stress seems to be one of the more intriguing factors making difficult animal reproduction and production. Information and knowledge on animal responses to the environment continues to be in process, managing livestock to reduce the impact of adverse weather and climate remains a challenge. Responding to the challenges of global warming necessitate a paradigm shift in the practice of agriculture and in the role of livestock within the farming system. The key thematic issues on environment stress and livestock production includes: early warning system, multiple stress research, exploitation of genetic potential of native breeds, suitable breeding programme and nutritional intervention research. Livestock farmers should have key roles in determining what adaptation and mitigation strategies they support if these have to sustain livestock production in changing climate. The integration of new technologies into the research and technology transfer systems potentially offers many opportunities to further the development of climate change adaptation strategies. This publication is therefore a multi-authored attempt to present the scientific fraternity high quality resource material in the field of climate change and livestock production. Attempts were made to discuss the adaptive mechanism that the animal exhibits to counteract the adverse effects of heat stress. Progresses made in refinements of vessels, new line materials and line-handling systems, preserving the catch, the availability of oceanographic-sensor equipments and the utilization of satellite technology to locate potential fishing grounds have greatly improved the fishing power of longline vessels. Post harvest technology of fish has evolved in the last one decade to a more energy-efficient, cost-effective, and quality upgrading technology. Since fresh fish can get spoiled very quickly, the development of technology for post-harvest preservation and methodology to convert fish to value added products have also become popular in recent times. Value addition helps in getting high price for the fishery products. There is a need to develop competent human resources in the field of post harvest management of fish and production of value added products from them. It is required to inculcate vocational and entrepreneurial skills in order to widen employment opportunities, particularly among rural youth and the disadvantaged sections of the society as well as to enable self employment.
