        Yo amé Berlin

        by Meir Sussman

        J'aime Berlin

        by Meir Sussman

        No masters but God

        Portraits of anarcho-Judaism

        by Hayyim Rothman

The forgotten legacy of religious Jewish anarchism, and the adventures and ideas of its key figures, finally comes to light in this book. Set in the decades surrounding both world wars, No masters but God identifies a loosely connected group of rabbis and traditionalist thinkers who explicitly appealed to anarchist ideas in articulating the meaning of the Torah, traditional practice, Jewish life and the mission of modern Jewry. Full of archival discoveries and first translations from Yiddish and Hebrew, it explores anarcho-Judaism in its variety through the works of Yaakov Meir Zalkind, Yitshak Nahman Steinberg, Yehudah Leyb Don-Yahiya, Avraham Yehudah Heyn, Natan Hofshi, Shmuel Alexandrov, Yehudah Ashlag and Aaron Shmuel Tamaret. With this ground-breaking account, Hayyim Rothman traces a complicated story about the modern entanglement of religion and anarchism, pacifism and Zionism, prophetic anti-authoritarianism and mystical antinomianism.

Practical Control of Mosquitoes as Disease Vectors

by Jacques Derek Charlwood, Carla A Sousa, Perran Ross, Marta Maia, Gabriel Carrasco-Escobar, Amir Galili, Lucy Tusting, Annold Mbando, Kevin Kobylinski, Carlos Chaccour, Jan E. Conn, Manuela Herrera-Varela, Robert T. Jones, Emmanuel Kaindoa, Kimberly Fornace, Edgar Manrique, Louisa A. Messenger, Meir Morag, Marta Moreno, Fredros Okumu, Joao Pinto

Disease vector control is rapidly changing, both because of the emergence of resistance to conventional methods and the development of new and potentially game-changing techniques. This book reviews several current and future measures for controlling mosquito vectors of disease, with an emphasis on malaria vectors. Beginning with an introduction to the topic of mosquito ecology and sampling methods, the book then covers several vector-borne disease control methods. The emphasis in many of these methods is for the sufferers of the diseases to take charge of their monitoring and control. Tackling the problems facing mosquito control, the authors review the important issues of education, economic considerations and climate change before concluding with a consideration of the politics and practicalities of method choice and implementation. This book is a thought-provoking concise and practical resource for anyone interested in primary healthcare and tackling or studying mosquito disease vectors.

        Forest Hydrology

        Processes, Management and Assessment

by Devendra Amatya, Thomas Williams, Leon Bren, Carmen de Jong

Forests cover approximately 26% of the world's land surface area and represent a distinct biotic community. They interact with water and soil in a variety of ways, providing canopy surfaces which trap precipitation and allow evaporation back into the atmosphere, thus regulating how much water reaches the forest floor as through fall, as well as pull water from the soil for transpiration. The discipline "forest hydrology" has been developed throughout the 20th century. During that time human intervention in natural landscapes has increased, and land use and management practices have intensified. This book: - Presents cutting edge thinking and assessments in forest hydrology across all latitudes and terrains, including state-of-the-art modelling techniques and methodologies - Describes the latest challenges facing forest hydrology, such as increased occurrence of disturbance, due to extreme floods, drought, disease, and fire, potentially caused by climate change - Is written by an internationally renowned team of scientists, engineers, and managers to give a well-rounded review of the subject The book will be useful for graduate students, professionals, land managers, practitioners, and researchers with a good understanding of the basic principles of hydrology and hydrologic processes. ; This book presents cutting edge thinking and assessments in forest hydrology across all latitudes and terrains, including state-of-the-art modelling techniques and methodologies. It describes challenges facing forest hydrology such as extreme floods, drought, disease, and fire, and is written by an internationally renowned team. ; 1: An Introduction to Forest Hydrology 2: Forest Runoff Processes 3: Forest Evapotranspiration: Measurement and Modelling at Multiple Scales 4: Forest Hydrology of Mountainous and Snow Dominated Watersheds 5: European Perspectives on Forest Hydrology 6: Tropical Forest Hydrology 7: Hydrology of Flooded and Wetland Forests 8: Forest Drainage 9: Hydrological Modeling in Forested Systems 10: Geospatial Technology Applications in Forest Hydrology 11: Forests Cover Changes and Hydrology in Large Watersheds 12: Hydrologic Effects of Forest Management 13: Hydrology of Forests after Wildfire 14: Hydrologic Processes of Reference Watersheds in Experimental Forests, USA 15: Applications of Forest Hydrologic Science to Watershed Management in the 21st Century 16: Hydrology of Taiga Forests in High Northern Latitudes 17: Future Directions in Forest Hydrology

        by Johann-Günther König, Jutta Golda

Looking Back at the Israeli Banking System, 1965 – 2012

A collection of articles and papers on developments and policy issues, relating to the Israeli banking system

        by Prof. Meir Heth

This book, published recently by Rubin Mass Ltd, is a collection of articles and papers on developments and policy issues, relating to the Israeli banking system, written over a period of more than four decades by Professor Meir Heth. Heth held key positions in the Israeli capital markets. He was Superintendent of Banks with the Bank of Israel, chairman of the board of the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, of Bank Leumi and of other major Israeli corporations. Israel was born in 1948, and its banking system was quite primitive in the early years. Heth, who started in the research department of the Bank of Israel in 1962, wrote several articles that are essential to the understanding of the factors that shaped the structure and business of Israeli Banking for decades to come. Among these are the methods of the Bank of Israel's monetary policy, widespread linkage of financial assets, the legal ceiling of the rate of interest and the deep intervention of the government in the working of the financial markets. Along the years the system has undergone several crises. Heth was actively involved in some of them and he devoted several papers to the issues involved. He criticized sharply for years the policy pursued by the banks of regulating their shares' prices. Following the crisis that led to a de facto nationalization of the four major banks Heth dealt in several articles with the process of reprivatizing the banks. Over the years, many banking institutions disappeared, some were declared insolvent but many more were acquired by the big banks, a process that shaped the concentrated structure of the system. Heth devoted several articles to the bankruptcy of the Israel British Bank, an event that occurred during his tenure as superintendent and had political and international repercussions. The liquidation of the bank and its British subsidiary lasted over 30 years Several articles and papers were dedicated to important policy issues: The conflict of interests involved in the banks' securities business and ways to tackle the problem, the establishment of a formal system of deposit insurance and the need of overhauling the Law of Banking in order to establish a coherent system of bank regulation. This book will be of interest to followers of the Israeli economy and to scholars following the development of banking in emerging markets.
