        Bovine Tuberculosis

        by Mark Chambers, Stephen Gordon, Francisco Olea-Popelka, Paul Barrow

        This book is contemporary, topical and global in its approach, and provides an essential, comprehensive treatise on bovine tuberculosis and the bacterium that causes it, Mycobacterium bovis. Bovine tuberculosis remains a major cause of economic loss in cattle industries worldwide, exacerbated in some countries by the presence of a substantial wildlife reservoir. It is a major zoonosis, causing human infection through consumption of unpasteurised milk or by close contact with infected animals. Following a systematic approach, expert international authors cover epidemiology and the global situation; microbial virulence and pathogenesis; host responses to the pathogen; and diagnosis and control of the disease. Aimed at researchers and practising veterinarians, this book is essential for those needing comprehensive information on the pathogen and disease, and offers a summary of key information learned from human tuberculosis research. It will be useful to those studying the infection and for those responsible for controlling the disease.

        The Intellectual and Cultural World of the Early Modern Inns of Court

        by Edited by Jayne Archer, Elizabeth Goldring and Sarah Knight

        This is a collection of essays on an important but overlooked aspect of early modern English life: the artistic and intellectual patronage of the Inns of Court and their influence on religion, politics, education, rhetoric, and culture from the late fifteenth through the early eighteenth centuries. This period witnessed the height of the Inns' status as educational institutions: emerging from fairly informal associations in the fourteenth century, the Inns of Court in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries had developed sophisticated curricula for their students, leading to their description in the early seventeenth century as England's 'third university'. Some of the most influential politicians, writers, and divines - as well as lawyers - of Tudor and Stuart England passed through the Inns: men such as Edward Hall, Richard Hooker, John Webster, John Selden, Edward Coke, William Lambarde, Francis Bacon, and John Donne. This is the first interdisciplinary publication on the early modern Inns of Court, bringing together scholarship in history, art history, literature, and drama. The book is lavishly illustrated and provides a unique collection of visual sources for the architecture, art, and gardens of the early modern Inns ;

        Just Love

        A journey of self-acceptance

        by Jayne Ozanne

        From one of the UK's most widely-respected gay evangelicals comes a powerful faith memoir of overcoming inner conflict and taking a stand against one of the greatest institutional injustices of our time. Just Love is the autobiography of Jayne Ozanne, a prominent gay Anglican, who struggled for over 40 years to reconcile her faith with her sexuality before becoming one of the leading figures that is ushering in a new era of LGBTI acceptance in the Church. Jayne’s story includes: a faith journey in which she became a founding member of the Church of England’s Archbishops’ Council, working in charities she has set up that has taken her from the White House to the jungles of Burma; studying as a Visiting Research Fellow at Oxford University to working alongside international figures such as Tony Blair and the Vicar of Baghdad; becoming hospitalised as she attempted to find ‘healing’ from her sexuality, and then ostracised by many Christians after she finally decided she had no choice but to come out; becoming a high-profile campaigner for LGBTI acceptance in the Church and helping to lead the revolt in the General Synod that overturned the House of Bishops’ report on same-sex marriage. Jayne’s story serves as a lifeline for LGBTI Christians struggling to reconcile their faith with their sexuality.
