Founded in 1947, Samir Éditeur is a Beirut-based francophone publishing house specializing in children’s books and textbooks. We publish in both French and Arabic languages, and our books are distributed worldwide. Our children’s book list includes picture books, first readers, fiction and non-fiction titles for ages 2 to 17. We publish original content as well as carefully curated translations such as Roald Dahl’s books. Our family of culturally and geographically diverse authors and illustrators enriches our catalogue with award-winning titles, such as our YA title Caballero by Lenia Major that won 3 awards and got 3 mentions in France (2017-2018) or our picture book Raconte encore, grand-mère ! by Marido Viale and Xavière Broncard that won the Prix Chronos (2016). Our latest YA novel Droit devant is currently shortlisted for 5 literary awards. We are among those who were the most affected by the Beirut blast this past August. Our offices were completely destroyed; fortunately, our staff had been working from home due to the covid outbreak, so there were no human losses. Soil ecology is the study of interactions between the physio-chemical components of the soil and organisms living within the soil. Humans are highly dependent upon the soil ecosystem, which provides food, fiber, fuel and ecological services, such as the recycling of atmospheric gases. It is therefore important to understand the function and nature of the soil ecosystem in order to predict and mitigate the long term consequences of present day actions. Soil Ecology and Management describes the organisms inhabiting the soil, their functions and interactions and the dimensions of human impact on the activity of soil organisms and soil ecological function. Chapters discuss basic soil characteristics and biogeochemical cycling, key soil flora and fauna, community-level dynamics (soil food webs) and the ecological and pedological functions of soil organisms. Unlike other soil biology and ecology textbooks, the authors also convey a better understanding of how human activities impact upon soil ecology in a section on ecosystem management and its effects on soil biota and provide a unique perspective on the utility of soil organisms.

Adolfo Bioy Casares wurde am 15. September 1914 in Buenos Aires (Argentinien) geboren. 1932 lernte er im Haus der Essayistin und Literaturkritikerin Victoria Ocampo Jorge Luis Borges kennen und zwei Jahre darauf seine spätere Frau Silvina Ocampo, die ihn gemeinsam mit Borges überzeugte, sein Studium der Rechtswissenschaften und der Philosophie aufzugeben und sich ganz der Literatur zu widmen. 1940 veröffentlichte er La invención de Morel (dt. Morels Erfindung, Neuübersetzung von 2003), sein wohl bekanntester Roman und inzwischen ein Klassiker der phantastischen Literatur. 1954, das Jahr in dem seine einzige Tochter, Marta, geboren wurde, veröffentlichte er El sueño de los héroes (dt. Der Traum der Helden), einen seiner durch Thematik, Sprach- und Lokalkolorit »argentinischen« Romane. Unter den gemeinsamen Pseudonymen H. Bustos Domecq und B. Suárez Lynch verfaßte er mit Borges zusammen zahlreiche Erzählungen, unter anderem die Kriminalgeschichten Seis problemas para don Isidro Parodi (dt. Sechs Aufgaben für Don Isidro Parodi). 1990 erhielt Bioy Casares den bedeutendsten Literaturpreis der spanischsprachigen Welt: den Premio Cervantes. Er starb 1999 in Buenos Aires.
