It uses the great grandmother who delivered more than 12,000 people as the backbone, and the beings brought into the world by the great grandmother as the branches and leaves, building a magnificent and vast literary world. Hu Xuewen’s brush reaches into the rituals, morals, bloodlines and localities of vernacular society, and through flesh and blood of his characters, he gives shape to the unnamed “Yuan Qi” at the bottom of national life in a grand picture, and sets the heart of a centuries-old China that has survived and prospered through all the hardships, demonstrating the author’s extraordinary narrative talent.
