        Minibombo makes picture books characterized by clear images and solid colours, telling stories with a short text or no text at all. The books aim to create a participated reading process between adults and children and require a bit of creativity and cooperation on their part. Minibombo loves to explore different types of communication. This is why some of its paper stories have become the starting point for creating digital applications. The apps refer to the original stories in the books and develop them further by exploiting a different code. All the minibombo apps are available worldwide on the App Store and Google Play. Minibombo started in Reggio Emilia, Italy, in 2013. Since its beginnings, it has been highly appreciated both by readers and operators in the sector and has been awarded several prizes which have helped make its books known among a wide public. Its books are translated in more than fourteen counties worldwide.

        Lektüre für Minuten

        Gedanken aus seinem Werk

        by George Bernard Shaw, Ursula Michels-Wenz

        "Die Auswahl »Lektüre für Minuten« vermittelt in konzentrierter Form sie die Gedankenwelt des Werks Bernard Shaws und beleuchtet dieses, ganz im Sinne des Autors, aus unterschiedlichen Perspektiven in Kapiteln über Tugend und Laster; über das Glück; Angst und Tod; Mann und Frau, Eltern und Kinder etc. Besonders dem mit Shaw noch nicht vertrauten Leser kann die thematische Aufteilung Zugang zur Vielschichtigkeit seiner Thesen und Verständnis des ebenso beliebten wie umstrittenen Moralisten, der politische und menschliche Kraftfelder mit Scharfsinn und Humor analysiert, wesentlich erleichtern."

        Gender and knowledge

        by Joan Bellamy, Anne Laurence, Gill Perry, Susan Williams

        Brings together the varied artistic, critical and cultural productions by women scholars, critics and artists between 1790-1900, many of whom are little known in the canonical histories of the period. Women discussed include authors (Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley, Sydney Morgan and Anna Jameson) actresses ( Elizabeth Siddons, Dorothy Jordan, and Mary Robinson) critics ( Margaret Oliphant and Mary Cowden Clarke) historians (Agnes Strickland, Lucy Aikin, Mary Anne Everett Green, Elizabeth Cooper and Lucy Toulmin Smith) as well as the writers and readers of Women's magazines, educationalists and translators. Makes a significant and original contribution to the development of gender studies by extending the frontiers of existing knowledge and research. ;

        Die Korrespondenz

        by J. D. Daniels, Frank Jakubzik

        »Existenzielle Unbehaustheit« mag eine große alte Formel sein, aber sie beschreibt doch die Überforderungen, mit denen wir heute zu kämpfen haben: Vorgezeichnete Karrierewege waren einmal, Überlieferungen sind abgerissen, Rollenvorbilder funktionieren nicht mehr. Besonders zu leiden haben darunter oft Männer: Man spürt sich nicht, man grübelt zu viel, man hätte gern mehr Abenteuer – »toxische Männlichkeit«. In sechs essayistischen Briefen, verfasst aus unterschiedlichen Lebenssituationen heraus, erkundet J. D. Daniels die Dilemmata unserer Zeit – und (vermeintliche) Wege, ihnen zu entkommen: Kampfsport, Reisen, Gruppentherapie, die Flucht in Verschwörungstheorien. Daniels schreibt entwaffnend offen, mit scharfem Witz und knapper Brillanz. Seine Briefe fügen sich zu einem düster-ironischen Panorama, das »jeder lesen sollte, der sich für das moderne Leben interessiert« (John Jeremiah Sullivan).

        The Papal Reform of the Eleventh Century

        Lives of Pope Leo IX and Pope Gregory VII

        by I. Robinson

        The eleventh-century papal reform transformed western European Church and society and permanently altered the relations of Church and State in the west. The reform was inaugurated by Pope Leo IX (1048-54) and given a controversial change of direction by Pope Gregory VII (1073-85). This book contains the earliest biographies of both popes, presented here for the first time in English translation with detailed commentaries. The biographers of Leo IX were inspired by his universally acknowledged sanctity, whereas the biographers of Gregory VII wrote to defend his reputation against the hostility generated by his reforming methods and his conflict with King Henry IV. Also included is a translation of Book to a Friend, written by Bishop Bonizo of Sutri soon after the death of Gregory VII, as well as an extract from the violently anti-Gregorian polemic of Bishop Benzo of Alba (1085) and the short biography of Leo IX composed in the papal curia in the 1090s by Bishop Bruno of Segni. These fascinating narrative sources bear witness to the startling impact of the papal reform and of the 'Investiture Contest', the conflict of empire and papacy that was one of its consequences. An essential collection of translated texts for students of medieval history.

        Illustrations of Quarantine Pests for Europe

        by Edited by I M Smith, Anne S Roy

        This book is a companion volume to Quarantine Pests for Europe, published originally in 1992 by the European and Mediterranean Plant Protection Organization (EPPO) and CAB INTERNATIONAL (CABI) for the European Union. The previous book provides information on identity, hosts, geographical distribution, biology, detection and identification, means of movement and dispersal, pest significance, phytosanitary measures and a bibliography for all the quarantine pests listed by EPPO and the European Union, but does not contain any illustrations. A second edition of Quarantine Pests for Europe will be published at the end of 1996. The present book contains approximately 400 colour illustrations, most of them new in relation to the very first illustrations of the EPPO Data Sheets which appeared in Bulletin OEPP/EPPO Bulletin in the 1980s. The book covers most of the quarantine pests listed by EPPO and the European Union, including those which have been added to the quarantine lists since 1992. Thus it will be compatible with the second edition of the volume of text data sheets. The quarantine pests concerned are either not present in the Euro-Mediterranean region, or only present to a limited extent and submitted to official control measures. The sequence of presentation is as for the text volume, i.e. insects, nematodes, fungi, bacteria, viruses, parasitic plants. Within each chapter, the pest illustrations appear in alphabetical order. An index including scientific names and synonyms is included at the end of the book. Accompanying text is presented in both English and French. Although it has not been possible to illustrate every listed quarantine pest, this book provides a unique collection that will help phytosanitary inspectors, plant health officers, and others working in the field of plant quarantine, or plant protection in general, to recognize and identify quarantine pests. The book is published by EPPO in association with CABI, and is available for sale exclusively through CABI.

        In beiden Dramen ist Shaw bemüht, der ungezügelten Macht, ob sie in Form von Geld oder in einer tyrannischen Persönlichkeit auftritt, mit Humor und praktischen Forderungen entgegenzusteuern, seiner Devise gemäß, daß jeder gesunde Mensch die Pflicht hat, nützlich, d. h. für Shaw letzten Endes gemeinnützig, zu sein.

        George Bernard Shaw wurde am 26. Juli 1856 als Sohn eines Beamten in Dublin geboren. 1876 zog er nach London, wo er sich als einer der führenden Musik- und Theaterkritiker etablieren konnte. Shaw betätigte sich auch auf politischer Bühne und wurde u.a. Mitglied der Fabian Society. Seine schriftstellerische Laufbahn begann er mit fünf erfolglosen Romanen, wandte sich dann dem Schreiben von Dramen – darunter vielen Komödien – zu, die sich durch die Verbindung von Ironie, Satire und Kritik an gesellschaftlichen und politischen Mißständen auszeichnen.
