Siete cuentos
by P. Beardsall
One of the core authors of the '60s boom in Latin American fiction, Julio Cortázar made a contribution of international importance to the development of the short story as a literary form. This collection spans his writing career and includes La Noche Boca Arriba and Final del Juego (1956), Las Babas del Diablo (1959), La Isla a Mediodia (1966), Recortes de Prensa and Queremos Tanto a Glenda (1981) and Botella al Mar (1982). Of the seven stories, some are famous examples of his contribution to the genre of 'fantastic' literature, while others demonstrate his social and political concerns. Cortázar can be a challenging and demanding writer. Peter Beardsell's edition, with its comprehensive introduction and notes to the text, selected vocabulary and discussion section suggests that he is also enjoyable and accessible to readers at all levels. ;

Crows Snakes Jackals
by António Carlos Cortez
Crows Snakes Jackals - was born of an extended sequence of prose poems and was a participant chapter of the anthology 'The concrete pain' (Tinta da China publisher) of the poet Antonio Carlos Cortez. Pedro Mexia praises the book, shortlisted for Oceanos Prize (2018 edition). In 'Crows Snakes Jackals', Cortez handling the poetic form to speak in an unforgettable way, indelible, what most amazes us: the cruelty of life and passivity of men.

Poetry authors in Brazil
16 Brazilian poets to read today
by António Carlos Cortez
The book 'Poetics with Diction - 16 Brazilian poets to read today' is a sublime encounter between Portugal and Brazil, governed by the poet, literary critic, teacher and essayist Portuguese Antonio Carlos Cortez, as previously reported by Jaguatirica in Brazil, with the anthology "The Exact time" and the poetry book "Crows, Snakes, Jackals", shortlisted for the Oceans Award. In this book of essays, Cortez focuses such conductor on a symphony of contemporary Brazilian authors and their poetic diction, which makes a point of mentioning specific as compared to the Lusitanian. Alexandra Maia, Ana Cristina Cesar, Antonio Cicero, Carlos Drummond de Andrade, Carlos Nejar, Chico Buarque, Eucanaã Ferraz, José Paulo Paes, Ledo Ivo, Louis Maffei, Manoel de Barros, Paulo Henriques Britto, Renato Russo, Sergio Nazar David, Simone Brantes and Vinicius de Moraes are sixteen colleagues chosen to serve as inspiration to fill the pages of this book with bright notes of Antonio Carlos Cortez, besides the part specially reserved for the work of Clarice Lispector.

DESPERATELY SEEKING DALÍ
by Ian Castello-Cortes
Dali gets the Desperately Seeking treatment and it's fascinating. The upper-middle class, but very provincially Catalan, background; the possibly abusive priests at school; his time at the Oxbridge of Madrid as a student, holding his talentless teachers (compared to him) in contempt, but developing his surrealist ideas with Bunuel and Lorca. Meeting Gala in Paris, whilst hob-nobbing with the mega rich. The wealthy British patrons, like Edward James, who fell in love with him in London, and his escape from a war-torn Europe to spend time on both East and West Coast USA. It's a grippng story, and the locations surprising, not least as despite his mega wealth, he followed a cycle of his Dalinian year once back in Europe: Cadaques, Paris, New York and back. And in the midst of this the prodigious work-rate of a genius, but one who was uber succesful and commercially hyper-astute. And threaded through all this, his strange sado-massochistic-voyeuristic sexuality, and a tormented, in later life, open marriage with Gala. Castello-Cortes packs a huge mount into this small volume – a total treat for all Dali fans, or the most perfect introduction to his art for new aficionados. Great photos and maps throughout.

DESPERATELY SEEKING VAN GOGH
by Ian Castello-Cortes
A totally fresh look at the life and career of Van Gogh. The Desperately Seeking treatment is a great way to get a quick sense of the shape of Vincent's extraordinary life, and dispels many of the myths. By any measure he was a bit random. Educated privately by his very respectable parents, he spent time training to be an art dealer, became a teacher in Ramsgate and London when that failed, turned crazily to religion, went and lived as a quasi-preacher in the most depressed part of Belgium, enjoyed a spell at art school in Paris (when his prostitute habit was financed by his long-suffering brother) headed to the south of France – the period of the yellow house and the ear – before spending his final years, when his paintings did begin to be celebrated, in bucolic bliss just north of Paris. He was also probably killed accidentally as a result of a teenager's prank with a revolver – not the suicide which so many specialists have suggested, such is the sentimental view of him. Wonderful Van Gogh art and photos throughout and fascinating maps.
