        Phänomenologie der Erfahrung

        by Ronald D. Laing, Klaus Figge, Waltraud Stein

        Ronald D. Laings Studie über Formen menschlicher Erfahrung zeigt, wie mit Hilfe sozialpsychologischer und psychoanalytischer Ansätze gesellschaftliche Strukturen begriffen werden können. Psychische Defekte sind für ihn nicht Probleme des einzelnen, sondern Reaktionen der Subjekte auf krankmachende Gesellschaftsstrukturen, die Psychiatrie individualisiert das Problem nur. Erst wenn die Vereinzelten, und das sind letztlich alle Mitglieder der bürgerlichen Gesellschaft, sich ihrer selbst und ihres Gegenübers durch Erfahrung im emphatischen Sinn wirklich bewußt werden, kann der Zustand des schlechten Ganzen aufgehoben werden.

        American film and politics from Reagan to Bush Jr

        by Philip Davies, Paul Wells

        Covers a crucial two decades in American history, when the links between Hollywood and Washington DC were at their strongest.. The period is 'book-ended' by the mighty political and cinematic figures of Reagan and Clinton.. Covers a period in which movies have become targets of political rhetoric of 'family values'.. Essays examine cinematic views of key American political institutions - the presidency and electoral process, politically significant places such as New York City and the American South, the promotion of major issues like gender, family and race. This is a subject which has gained new significance in the wake of recent terrorist attacks in New York and Washington DC, which have changed both the political climate, and the priorities of the movie industry. ;

        A book of monsters

        Promethean horror in modern literature and culture

        by David Ashford

        This books traces the rise to prominence in the twentieth-century of a sub-genre of gothic fiction that is, emphatically, a horror of enlightenment rationality rather than gothic darkness, examining post-modern revisions of Modernist "Promethean" tropes in an eclectic range of gothic, fantasy and SF writing. Whether the subject be terror of London's churches in the psychogeographical fiction of Iain Sinclair and Alan Moore, the Orcs in the linguistic fantasies of J.R.R. Tolkien, King Kong, killer-computers, or demon-children in post-war British science-fiction, A Book of Monsters offers illuminating perspectives on the darker recesses of the post-modern imagination, setting out a compelling, and comprehensive, overview on our contemporary unconscious.

        Comic politics

        Gender in Hollywood Comedy

        by Mark Jancovich, Eric Schaefer

        Are Jim Carrey, Robin Williams, and Eddie Murphy the celluloid compatriots of Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatcher and Tony Blair? This book argues that the rubber faces of '80s and '90s comedy films, helped to transform us into the flexible, self-managing citizens beloved of the new right—and its successors. Through its sustained look at the box-office comedies of the last two decades, Comic Politics provides a critical introduction to key approaches to comedy. It tests the usefulness and limits of psychoanalytics, Bakhtinian and postmodernist theory against comedians and comedies from Woody Allen to Wayne's World. The book includes a look at animation and computer enhanced comedies.
