        Lyme Disease

        An Evidence-based Approach

        by John J Halperin

This new edition of Lyme Disease provides up-to-date evidence-based research and covers the significant advances in our understanding of the disorders referred to as Lyme disease or Lyme borreliosis. This book explores the causative organism, its requisite ecosystem, disease epidemiology, host-Borrelia interactions, diagnostic testing, clinical manifestations, therapeutic options, the role of host immunity on pathogenesis and long term prognosis. The authors provide balanced perspectives on all aspects of Lyme disease and explicitly review both the basic biology of the infection and practical clinical aspects. This new edition: Includes new borrelial pathogens that have been identified (B. miyamotoi, B. mayonii and B. bavariensis among others). Provides updated information on the molecular biology of the organism, neuroborreliosis, and the role of the C6 peptide in diagnosis. Discusses the controversies about 'chronic Lyme disease', post Lyme disease syndrome and other ongoing but non-specific symptoms that have been attributed to this infection. As the endemic footprint of Lyme disease continues to grow, this book provides a broad and detailed guide for clinicians and researchers involved with the diagnosis and treatment of the condition. Covering biology, epidemiology and therapeutics, it is also essential reading for students of global health and infectious disease.

Artificial Intelligence & Soft Computing For Beginners, Third Edition

        by Anindita Das-Bhattacharjee

The course of Artificial Intelligence is taken by all engineering undergraduate and postgraduate students pursuing computer science. Apart from this, it is a popular elective in almost all other branches of engineering. It is also a field chosen for research by many doctoral students. This book has in-depth detail illustration of all the chapters of Artificial Intelligence (AI) with Soft Computing, covering the syllabus of WBUT, Gitam, JNTU, NIT and few different universities. During the course of teaching Artificial Intelligence, the author had found that no textbook covers both Artificial intelligence (AI) with intelligent systems (IS) and soft computing in a comprehensive manner. This book provides a comprehensive coverage of the fundamental concepts and techniques in Artificial Intelligence and Soft Computing with mathematical in depth explanation. The main emphasis is on the solution of real world problems using the latest AI techniques. During teaching artificial intelligence, author realized that the basic text books do not have an organized content according to the syllabus. In this book all the chapters are organized properly and contain a complete coverage. The sequence of the chapters has been set in a manner which would be very easy for the students to understand. The main importance of this book is on the solution of many real world problems. Each chapter contains multiple choice questions with answer and possible explanation. Also some important solutions and answers at the end as “Take a look to be more acquainted with”. In addition, modern and current topic in AI for an example Pattern Recognition, Data Clustering Algorithm, Genetic Algorithm with Data Clustering method, Swarm Intelligence, Tabu Search, Ant Colony Optimization are discussed in details. These concepts may motivate students to do projects .This book contains information about programming languages and the proper syntax with example is provided which may help students to practically apply this programming concepts. Mathematical explanation to understand the concept in detail about Single & Multi objective Genetic Algorithm, Neural Network, Fuzzy Logic is provided. The basic coverage of each and every chapter is mentioned before the chapter as “chapter utility”. This book has been designed in such a manner so that it becomes very easy to understand the language and comprehend not only for computer science department student but also for non departmental student as well.

        Chemistry and Health Benefits

by Anamika Das, Tanmay Hazra & Rohit G Shindhav

.Milk is an integral part of human diet from ancient times. It provides a significant amount of protein, micronutrients and vitamins, which are essential to alleviate and fight malnutrition. To the worlds total milk production, Cow milk contributes 82.7%, followed by milk from Buffaloes, Goats, Sheeps and Camels. Cow milk contributes almost majority of worlds total milk production. Apart from plenty of health benefits of cow milk, the adverse effects or devil side of cow milk have been observed for certain population in the world. These adverse effects have been categorized as symptoms ofLactose intolerance- a condition characterized by difficulty in digesting milk due to absence of particular enzyme Lactase. Milk allergy occurs due to adverse immune reaction due to presence of certain milk proteins and this is usually termed as milk allergy cow milk protein allergy (CMPA). Non-cow (goat, camel, donkey, yak, horse) milks are closely associated with the culinary cultures of many societies throughout the world. Non-Bovine milks draw great interest for researchers in terms of milk production, technology, chemistry, microbiology, safety, nutrition, and health aspects

Numerical Methods and Models in Earth Science

        by Parthasarathi Ghosh

"Understanding earth systems and its dynamic behavior requires objective insights into the complex observational data sets and their interrelationships. Drawing meaningful inferences from such data is not always an easy task as the deterministic relationships between various geological variables often remain obscured. These interrelationships need to be determined empirically through the analysis of a large set of data and validated through numerical simulations. The ever widening horizon of techniques of numerical analysis and simulation now provides a good number of tools to aid the interpretation. However, due to the inherent complexity of earth science data, expert supervision is required at all stages of analysis from collection to dissemination. This ensures that the most appropriate methodology is adopted and the results remain consistent with the geological principles. Discussions on these practical issues often lie beyond the scope of textbooks and this is precisely where this book is placed. In this book eminent geoscientists present their experiences in analyzing and managing earth science data as well as in designing numerical models to simulate earth processes. Apart from giving a discourse of their own approach towards a particular research problem they also discuss at length the relative merits of alternative methodologies. These seven authoritative articles, richly illustrated, will be a valuable resource for research students and professionals interested in research and teaching in various branches of earth science like, tectonics, GPS geodesy, sedimentology, geographical information science, and evolutionary biology."
